SENATOR MITCHELL FOUND GUILTY portland the jury in the ease case ol 01 the tim united states against senator john H mitchell returned a verdict of guilty as charged the charge is that senator mitch ell while occupying his public tion accepted a pecuniary bompensa com pensa tion for practicing before the federal departments at washington which under the federal statutes constitutes a crime the senator received the verdict with fortitude severe and evidently unexpected as was the blow he showed by no outward sign save ghastly pallor and the nervous ing of his beard that he felt the blow when these proceedings were corn com plated judge bennett arose and on the part of senator mitchell moved a new ariar senator mitchell refused to talk for publication after the ver diet had been rendered senator thurston Thu iston stated however that if the motion for a new trial is overruled the case will be appealed to the un ted states circuit court and then to the supreme court of the united states if necessary s
