Show FARMERS DISCUSS WATER QUESTION A large number of farmers having land under the hammond canal held a meeting in the court house bouse last saturday afternoon for the purpose of discussing matters of interest and to devise means for the betterment of conditions the farmers feel that it if they have an organization a corporation they will then be in a position to work to each others interests and cooperate more successfully with the hammond canal people in the matter of getting water for their lands the sentiment of tile the thirty five till tillers ears of the soil sell who were present at the meeting was unanimous for a corporation so a committee was named to confer with some attorney and find out the legal requirements for the effecting of such an organization the gentlemen appointed were geo R chase of 0 corinne W W lasley of honeyville wm jeppson of th this is city peter jensen of bismark and H L kotter jr of this city this committee held a meeting last monday evening and discussed the proposition with a representative of the bar and now the matter of drawing up articles of incorporation Is under way this movement is not to be taken in the light of being hostile to the canal company according to the tanners farmers but the desire is to get an organization brough which authoritative operation cooperation co can be extended the company tor for the farmers realize that there must be a united purpose be tween the two in order to successfully success fally accomplish the labor of improving the farms under the canal A meeting will be called at some near future date to consider the articles of incorporation and effect an organization |
