By Clint Nielsen aka Rodney Rebel, Director of Dixie College East I casually mentioned to Den- V - 7. X 'll nis Brunner the other day that I felt that I looked quite youthful for my advancing years. An old high school buddy from Concert KMS On Wednesday, May 9, the Kanab Middle School Spotlight on Strings Concert was held. The 7th and 8th grade String Orchestras performed for the first time in the commons area of the new Kanab Middle School, where the accoustics turned out to be quite good. The students performed a variety of classical and modem works. Their teacher, Mrs. Jeri Crosby, was very pleased with their progress. A highlight of the concert was the individual performances by some of the strings students of musical pieces they had composed themselves. Students performing such original pieces were: Sunny Crosby, Lacey Oove, Adam Hiscock, Hollie McAllister, Courtney Holley, Jason Kirby, Chelsea Banks, Andrea Brinkerhoff, Kathleen Downward, Rachel Fitzer, Luke Vreeken and Cole Shakespeare. It was a pleasure to see such talent and originality. Thank you to Mrs. Crosby for her hard work and dedication! All the serious people in this world, and I have to be surrounded by comedians! Dixies Easts summer classes have begun. They are ceramics, watercolors, physical geography, communications, and American civilization. Lets look toward fall offerings. The most likely are music, ceramics, watercolors, oils, biology, history, algebra, basic math, writing (English), reading (English), business, geology, computers, and literature. Any input froth prospective students would be greatly appreciated. However, input that urges 01 Rodney to go out on the freeway and kiss headlights will not be accepted! His face already looks like hed used it for a dart board...with blunt darts, yet. You can get an associate degree from the Kanab Outreach, which Rodney calls Dixie College East. Lets put enough students in these fall classes to assure their existence and provide degree seeking students the courses they need for graduation. I kid you not, education is expensive, even at an Outreach Program where you skip tuition fees and live at home. A three credit hour class with text book will cost you at least $200. It takes 63 credit hours to get your associate detimes $200 is a gree. Lets not wait around like an old maid sitting by the phone, hoping Prince Charming will call. Rodney is usually as useless as a trap door in a canoe, but he just might be of value to you!
