The commissioners approved his proposal and asked him to check with the Council on Aging regarding color. The county will provide the paint. Tom Forsythe wants to encourage the Commission to have South Central connect fiber optics. Commissioner Crosby said that some businesses are handicapped without it. The Commission decided to send a letter to South Central Board of Directors requesting fiber optics. They also agreed to ask South Central to come to the commission meeting and update them. Kane County Sheriff Lamont Smith had recommendations for two replacements. Brian Harris was approved to replace Shane Sorenson. Chief Deputy Allen Johnsop has moved and Tracy Glover from the Kanab City Police Department was approved to replace Johnson as Chief Deputy. A lengthy discussion ensued when Sheriff Smith wanted a 10 percent variance for Glovers wage. Smith felt it was within his right to ask for it out of his budget The county attorney made the point that how much to pay a county em-ployee is a Commission decision. m 4 1 4 Ay The Commissioners were not supportive of a variance at this time. The base wage will be $26,963. The 10 percent variance will be considered after a six month probationary period. Roads Supervisor Lou Pratt reported that contracts were ready for the 2000 season for chip and seal. The contracts were awarded to JDM. Aerial photo maps of Kaneplex are ready for the road plan. The county received $60,000 from Rural Development for water development at Kaneplex. County Attorney Winchester updated the Commission on the Quiet Title draft plan of litigation from the state. The county has agreed to sign and opt in. Funds for the litigation are from the State Constitution Defense Funds. The state has requested 20 roads from each county to start. The Kane County Resource Committee will select the roads. Commissioner Carrol said that he wants to see some roads in the proposed wilderness and not all in the Monument. We want roads that are most defensible. Three business licenses were approved: Cedar Mountain Builders, Foggy Bottom Surplus at Settlers Cove and First and Last Stop in Church Wells. Annual merit evaluations were approved for Harmon Robertson, Gerald Fitting, Kim Saul and Donna Casebolt. |
