Kristyn Smith placed 3rd in the botany division for her project titled, System Works Best? Kristyn also won a $50 savings bond and certificate from the United States Army. Dane Glazier placed 2nd in students and others who are not registered in a public school this year have a chance to take academic classes from their homes through the Internet. The Deer Valley Unified School District and Phoenix Special Programs and Academics have teamed up to offer the Technology Assisted Student Learning Project to any student statewide who has not attended a public school this year. New Frontiers for Families Conference: Blazing New Trails, a conference for people with special needs, theirfamihes, educators and otherservice providers, held Apnl 14, at Kanab High School. Karen Sinclair, a member of KAPS, our Kane County Family Council, presented the award. Pam was recognized for her dedication and service to children with special needs and their families. Fifteen years ago, Pam opened the first preschool for children with special needs in Kanab. TASL is an accredited home study program offering academic classes in all core areas to Arizona students. The open-entrd Internet courses must be completed within six months from enrollment date. Courses were designed by certified teachers, and provide activities, research assignments, quizzes and tests online, plus textbooks for y, self-pace- KHS reading assignments. This is perfect for accelerated and gifted learners that do not fit into the traditional classroom setting. The program is technologically advanced and said Arlene Duston, program coordinator. Brent Robinson and his parents, Karen and Charles Robinson, nominated Sarah for the award. Karen read a poem about Sarah written by Kay Willardson and Brent presented Sarah with the award and a hug.
