Fredonia Town Council Dear Editor: Id like to thank the residents of Fredonia for giving me the opportunity to serve on the Town Council from last May until January. As always, it was a very enlightening, challenging and rewarding experience. I felt bad that I had to resign from the Council to Fill the position of Justice of the Peace Pro Tem, working for Judge Black in Fredonia Precinct. I was looking forward to completing my term. I appreciate the outstanding work that our town employees do under the direction of Bob Lathim, Tom Corrigan, Marilyn Johnson and the Town Council. This hardworking Council was a pleasure to work with. Greg Honey, Steven Win ward, Lillian Lukus, and Joy Jordan are really dedicated to doing what is best for the residents of Fredonia. They truly care. They listen to the people who live here and do what they can for us. We have made some great strides in the past year, most of which I had very little to do with. We need to thank the remaining Council Members for the progress on these projects: The sewer system, although a little behind schedule due to the clay liner, is really going GREAT. We have great contractors to work with, who are willing to do whatever is heeded to give us a quality system. It is nearly complete and the cleanup work on the roads and private property should begin soon, (thank goodness)! It has been a great winter for this type of work, although we really do need the rain. Last June we had no one in the Town Marshals office...now we have a new, well qualified Marshal who has roots here (Dan Watson) and two new deputies who we are really excited about (Wally Macias and Baden Grover). Plans are under way for new safety programs for our children and other programs to improve law enforcement through education in Fredonia. We hired Tom Corrigan to be the Town Manager. He has really done a lot to get things organized and has made a tremendous difference in the management of the town. New grants are coming in, the personnel policy was revised with input from the town employees, plans are in the works for a new Town Office Building which will be r THE: ITrEb,RYBBSi kN handicapped accessible and a beautiful addition to Main Street (by the Fire Station). The local chapter of the Humane Society has taken over the animal control responsibilities for the town at no cost to the residents, and continues to make improvements to our animal shelter. The Wood Hill road was really fixed up using grant money and provided some good local DOS FOR ALL 0TC IS If SAL among the lowest in Arizona or Utah with continual negotia- tions for cheaper power and system upgrades by the Tower Board and the Town Council. Main Street beautification is still progressing and is looking better all the time. Efforts are underway to continue to provide a better image for our town through cleanup projects, hazard abatement and Planningand Zoning. The Fire Department upgraded their breathing appara- tus to provide safer, more effec- tive Fire protection for the town. The Fire Station is being used for meetings by many local groups. This is what we had envisioned when the fire station was designed. The Fire Department has also sponsored community dances and a new years party. There are also quite a few of the local youth involved in the Junior Fire Department. The rodeo grounds are continually being upgraded by volunteers and the electrical system has also been updated. It is really an asset to the community! i LIB-H- OW ABOUT YOU, BILL? r,r' IU56191il,A Lj. SERES z. jf.' I CANNOT - m j .- uu tv tf5Vhe TRUTH... A 1045 1901 Wash lnv.ton.D.C. 0 Sy' V? Even though it is dusty at times and the roads are still tom up in spots, there is light at the end of the tunnel. By this summer, things should be better than ever. In additional to the sewer contract repairing the roads, the town is planning to begin repaving and widening roads throughout town. Elections for Town Council and the option of an elected mayor are coming up soon. I encourage everyone to get out and vote for Town Council Members who can and will work together to continue to improve the town for us, who have a positive attitude who stand FOR something not just against things, and who you could comfortably talk to about your ideas or concerns about Fredonia. These people are your representatives, vote for those who you can trust and be proud to call your friends. Sincerely, Mark Baron Thanks to the community Dear Editor: I must apologize because this letter is long overdue.
