With time being distributed among more physicians, KCH Board has offered ER physicians reimbursement of 80 which is 5 above the state average reimbursement. Dr. Mortenson and Dr. Burst were on hand to discuss the Boards offer. Both physicians are independent business people, feeling that their expenses are greater than the fouf hospital staff physicians. They take care of individuals on a daily basis that virtually become their family. Its always hard to say goodbye. Stephen Howells, Chief Financial Officer, reviewed Octobers budget. He was asked to explain the increase in certain areas of the budget that were unclear. With supplies being one of the larger areas of the increase, Howells explained, There are several reasons. We have switched to a new needle system. The new system is more costly but protects the patient as well as staff members from inadvertent needle sticks. Another, Howells continued,, is in pharmacy. We are going to an individual dose system which is showing an increase but will level out 'in the long run. The third area concerns the doctors. With new doctors on staff and new visiting doctors preforming more procedures you have an increase in supplies. Each physician is used to and requires different supplies, explained Howells. The KCH Board was satisfied with Howells explanations and his review of the tentative budget for the year 2000. The 2001 budget was accepted.
