The county is still working on the 2000 budget. They may have to cut services or raise taxes. Every department took cuts when the 1999 budget was cut almost $500,000. County Clerk Karla Johnson said that Commissioner Judd has kept the county solvent the last three By Dixie Brunner The Kane County Commission voted at a November 24 special meeting to publish a notice of intent to raise Kane County taxes. The action is required by law in the event the commission must raise taxes to balance the to $44.00, an increase of $29.74. The City of Kanab increased their taxes on an $85,000 residence from $64.33 per year to $100.33, an increase of $36.00. A look at an average tax bill, mine, for instance, shows 25.9 goes to the Kane County School Clerk Karla District; 23.4 to Kanab City, budget. Why then do our tax bills hurt so much? f The answer appears to be that the county is collection agent for numerous entities including the Kane County School District, State School levy, Kanab City, and Special Service Districts. While each district has a different function, they all add to the bottom line of your county taxes. News of the proposed increase is especially frustrating coming on the heels of the recent 434 rate increase for the Town of Glendale, a 208 rate increase by the Kane County Water Conservancy District and a 55 increase by the City of Kanab.
