Les is the owner of the Ensign Insurance Agency. Insurance wise, I fill the gap, says Les. The other three fine agencies in town are focusing on property and casualty. I am focusing on people and their needs. Les said his agency specializes in life and health, disability income, long term care, medicare supplements, retirementIRA, tax advantaged plans, mutual funds and college funding. In short, Les is here to serve your needs in a very personalized way. There is no need to leave Kanab for personal service on personal plans. I am here to provide that personal service, he says. Les is currently a licensed agent in Utah. He is also li m the Fuels Branch. Much of his work in geology was exploration, and his job took him from the Arctic down to the Amazon and from Florida to California. During his employment with U.S. Steel in Alaska, Les was involved in a helicopter crash. After eating lunch at a remote salmon stream, Les and the pilot overloaded the helicopter with salmon that were migrating up stream to spawn. During his employment with Chevron, Les supervised an iron ore project just south of the Arctic Circle in a region that was accessible only by air. While working for Kennecott, he was the manager of special projects and administration at the same time. His last place of employment in the field of geology was Arizona as well. Les has been involved in the insurance industry for 15 years. He retired from New York Life in 1983, but he didnt care much for retirement. He moved from Casper, Wyoming and took what he calls a temporary furlough from work to get settled in Kanab. He opened the Ensign Insurance Agency in August of 1999. Les has had a wide range of experiences that he brings from his varied background. He graduated from BYU with a bachelors degree in geology with minors in chemistry and math. Then he earned his masters degree in geology from the John Hopkins University. After college, the young geolo- with Teton Exploration in gist was hired by the U.S. Geo- Casper, WTyoming as chief geolological Survey and worked in gist of precious and strategic minerals. In his many years as a geologist, Les was involved in several important projects, and related adventures. When the mining business slowed down, Les sought a ca- reer in the insurance industry and began his new career working for a major insurance company. Les says he enjoys the insurance business because it involves getting to know people. When Les began to consider moving, Kanab was at the top of f i his list. I like it here and I plan to get involved in the community, he says. As for hobbies, I am and my hobby is work.
