Show School SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY AUGUST 4, 1999 Fripp graduates with honors from Lewis & Clark College Matthias Fripp from Kanab, received honors in environmen- tal studies from Lewis & Clark College. Fripp is the first Lewis & Clark student to receive honors in environmental studies, a major established at the college in 1997. Environmental affairs majors with a grade point average of 3.5, both cumulatively and in the major, are invited in the spring of their junior year to participate in the senior thesis program. Students work with a faculty adviser to develop a research project. They then write a thesis and make a formal oral presentation to environmental studies faculty. Fripps thesis, Racing Down the Experience Curve: Policies to Accelerate the Use of Renew- lytical approach known as the experience, he predicted how the cost would come down as the production of these devices increased. Fripp then suggested policies to help those new renewable technologies become competitive with more traditional energy sources. Fripp graduated summa cum laude from Lewis & Clark College on May 2, with a bachelor of arts degree in environmental studies. He is a member of the Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr., Society of Fellows, the highest academic honor awarded by Lewis & Clark College. Fripp also is a member of the Phi Beta Kapoa national honor society. Fredonia Moccasin governing board meeting of July 13, 1999 The Governing Board met in a special session, a budget hearing and truth in taxation session and a regular session on the above date with the following persons present: Mrs. Shirla Jessop, Mrs. Ila Bundy, Mr. Raymen Christensen, and Mr. GuyFinicum. Also present: Mr. Spencer Young and Mrs. Donna Mackun. Mr. Christensen called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Governing Board Self Evaluation Mr. Chiistensen called the meetingto order at 6:00 p.m. On a motion by Mrs. Jessop, seconded by Mrs. Bundy, the board unanimously approved the agenda for the Governing Board Self Evaluation meeting. The Governing Board conducted their annual Self-Evaluatio- n. Meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m. on a motion by Mr. Ander- seconded by Mr. Christensen. Budget and Truth Taxation Hearing Mr. Christensen called the meetingto order at 7:06 p.m. On a motion by Mr. Christensen, seconded by Mrs. Jessop, the board unanimously approved the agenda for the Budget and Truth in Taxation Hearing. In the earliest stage, called gingivitis, it can be reversible. It is treated with a professional cleaning, followed by proper brushing and flossing techniques. Gingivitis that is not treated can lead to more destructive form of the disease called periodontis. This is when the toxins destroy the tissues that attach the tooth to the bone. In the early stages of peridontal disease, there is no pain. Most people are not aware of the infection until it reaches a more advanced state and warning signs become more apparent. At 7:15 p.m. Mrs. Bundy adjourned the Budget and Truth in Taxation Hearing on a mo- tion, seconded onded by Mrs. Bundy, the board unanimously approved adopting the proposed budget for 1999- -' 2000 and authorized the County Board of Supervisors to levy taxes for school purposed in excess of taxes levied on the district in the preceding fiscal year if necessary. Roll call vote showed Mr. Christensen, aye; Mrs. Jessop, aye; Mrs. Bundy, aye; and Mr. Guy Finicum, aye. Mr. Christensen welcomed Guy Finicum as a new Governing Board member. Public Comment No public comment. Board Reorganization Election of Officer: Mr. Christensen opened nominations for president of the board. Raymon Christensen was nominated for the office of president of the board on a motion by Mrs. Bundy, seconded by Mrs. Jessop. Mr. Christensen called a vote and Mr. Christensen was unanimously approved as President of the Board.
