Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS WEDNESDAY APRIL 23, 1039 Sports Plans are officially off and running for the 12th annual Kanab 10K on May 8, 1999: Mothers Day Weekend. Other events are being planned to make the 10K an enjoyable event. At one time, the Kanab 10K was one of the largest and most popular 6.2 races in southern Utah. In October of 1984, seventeen brave souls showed up for the first race. The second year 37 people participated. In 1987, the race became part of the Vagabond Days and 54 people took Kiwanis Club or the Vagabond Days, but had evolved into the Kanab 10K. The race was starting to lure runners from outside of Kanab. By 1 989 the number increased to 200 race enthusiasts. The race that started on a shoestring was expanding and attracting sponsors.
