Blanchard away previously unbeaten picked up the loose ball and ran it Parowan delighting a large crowd last Friday Homecoming night. Allowing Kanab to score 28 points in the second quarter, including 21 in the final 4:18, sealed the fate for the Rams Midway through the first quarter, safety Jim Barnes intercepted a long pass by the Parowan quarterback on the Cowboy 16 yard line. After a 13 yard run by Matt McFadden and a 17 yard pass play from QB Rory Brunner to Chad Sturgill, Barnes broke free for a 49 yard touchdown scamper. Unfortunately there were penalties on both teams, so the touchdown was nullified and the play had to be run over again. After a punt by each team, the Cowboys got the ball back on their own 43 yard line. The Cowboys drove down the field and scored with 9:40 left in the second quarter on a 12 yard sweep by Barnes to make the score On the next Ram possession, linebacker Chris McDonald intercepted the ball and ran it back 35 yards for a touchdown. For the second time in the game, a touchdown was called back, this time on a head slap penalty against the Cowboys. After another penalty, the Rams were on the Cowboy 40 yard line. Defensive end Jason Blanchard sacked the quarterback for a 15 yard loss to force the Rams to punt. The Cowboys were pinned back on their own five yard line. A personal foul on Parowan and a 10 yard run by Barnes gave the Cowboys a first down on the 36. With 4:18 left in the half, 35-- 0, 7-- 0. UJ! 21 yards for a quick touchdown. With 4:02 to play in the half, the Cowboys led 21-- They were not finished for the half either. After holding Parowan and forcing another Ram punt, the Cowboys got the ball on their own 23. Brunner connected on a 19 yarder to tight end Scott Rhees. McFadden was the next recipient, on a 38 yard completion to the Ram 26. After a quarterback sack by the Rams moved the ball back to the 34, Brunner connected with wide ' receiver Sturgill on a quick slant and he broke it for a touchdown with : 17 remaining to make the score 28-- 0 at the half. The second half was mostly defense and turnovers. The only score came on a 46 interception return for a touchdown by comerback Sturgill with 2:3 1 left in the third period. The Cowboys were guilty ofthree fumbles and one interception in the third period as both teams were a little sloppy. Another highlight of the quarter was a booming 77 yard punt by Blanchard. The Cowboy defense came up big in the final period after Kanab fumbled on their own eight. After a penalty on Kanab gave the Rams first and goal from the four, the Cowboys held on four downs to preserve the shutout. Brunner completed 14 of 27 passes for 234 yards, including 157 in the big second quarter. Barnes ran for 59 yards on 12 carries and MacFadden added 46 on six tries. Defensively, McFadden had 14 tackles and Brandon Allen added 11, including three QB sacks. King Latimer Smith had eight tackles and one sack, while Monte Hawkins added eight tackles. A couple of drives later, tailback James Narramore took the handoff and rumbled 66 yards for another Cowboy touchdown, making the score 12-, Two minutes later, Kanab scored on a 44 yard TD pass from Milton to Blasdell, but a penalty flag stripped the Cowboys of the score. With 3:52 left in the second Brunner connected with McFadden across the middle for quarter, the Parowan defense recovered a fumble by Kanab on a 64 yard touchdown play to put the Cowboy 17. The Cowboys had a golden u opportunity on the second half kickoff, recovering the ball on the Parowan 20. But another fumble on a quarterback sack gave the ball right back to the Rams on the 35. With 5:48 left in the game and Parowan driving down the field, Cowboy defensive back Kyle Brunner picked off a Ram pass on the Cowboy 15. He ran it back to the Parowan 45. Three plays later, the Cowboys were forced to punt. A bad snap sailed over the punter's head and Parowan recovered.
