Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Opinion e 4 WEDNESDAY U, 1997 DECEMBER Speaks The Spirit of Christmas This year has been one of profound sorrow for me. With my mom and best friend Ruthie dying, my sister's head-o- n automobile crash and a variety of other unsettling events, 1997 hasn't been one I'd hold up as exemplary. But what I've learned from the bad times, is that while life can occasionally hurt, there is so much good in the world. My family and I were deeply touched by all the kindness expressed when my mom passed away. The majority of letters to this paper is thanking community folks for their kindness and compassion. Bud Knowles and his grandkids repairing bikes for the poor. Wards cutting wood for those who can't themselves, other Churches assisting poor and hungry transients, civic groups making quilts and blankets for the homeless, teens sacrificing their time and money to make sure needy kids have a good Christmas...the list goes on and on. There is so much good in this world, when you take the time to look for it. The spirit of Christmas is one of joy, compassion and giving. It is not found in a store or catalog, but in the heart of those who allow it. May the spirit of Christmas live on in our hearts throughout the upcoming year. j Letters to the Editor What is your opinion ?
