Karen Alvey soundly defeated opponent Tony Chatterley by a 64.17-35.8- 3 margin. The cordial race for the position vacated by Mayor Viv Adams drew 55.24 of Kanab Citys 2,435 registered voters. 1,345 ballots were cast in the November 4 election. By Dixie Brunner An accident south of Mt. Carmel claimed the lives of three young people last wedk. Killed were Jennifer Shannon, 21; Jason Campbell, 21; and Mark Schneckloth, 23. The three were employed in Springdale. Authorities believe the accident occured late November 2 or early November 3, two miles south of Mt Carmel Junction on State Road 89. The Toyota Four-Runnthe three were in drifted offthe road, rolling over a guard rail and down a steep embankment Preliminary investigations indicate that while all three victims were apparently wearingseat belts, all were ejected from the vehicle. The wreck went undiscovered until Wednesday due to poor visibility ofthe crash sight from the road. The accident was reported when a tour bus occupant saw what appeared to be a wreck on November 5.
