Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Opinion 4 WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER'S. 1997 Dixie Speaks You asked our opinion is There have been several public opinion surv eys taken lately. Questions were asked concerning municipal .spending priorities, quality of life and future vision. Priorities weren't limited to those the city could afford, but wish list items as well. The results of the survey were interesting. We encourage elected officials to heed what surveyed residents had to say. While all desires cannot be satisfied, the answers provide insight into what is important to community members. j Letters to the Editor What is your opinion? Planning team Dear Editor: The planning team for the NaGrand Staircase-Escalant- e tional Monument extends its thanks to all the people who participated in the local scoping meetings and made this process so successful. The ideas and suggestions. expectations and concerns that were voiced during the meetings, as well as in letters and Visions Kits mailed to the planning office, have provided important insights for the team to evaluate in the planning process. We were particularly impressed with the depth of knowledge and understanding that was demonstrated by the participants about the complexity of the issues. The range of ideas and concerns addressed was also impressive. Nearly everyone agreed on one point, that there are no simple solutions to problems and that some compromise is often necessary. There was a great turnout for the meetings, more than expected in some locations, and many who attended commented on how pleased they were with the format which allowed everyone to have a voice. As one Escalante participant com- was expecting some speech and then a lot of argument and shouting. This was great! It was interesting, informative, and even those who dont like to speak up in a group had a chance to share their thougnts . The scoping meetings will now travel to other states. However, please realize that you may comment at any time as the planning process continues. Simply write to the Monumented. long-winde- d I ments will be noted and your questions answered. Big-A-Aut- o; y, y, like to express my heartfelt t hanks for giving us such dream- like' pleasant days during our stay in Kanab. My excitement started when many people came all the way to Salt Lake City to see us. And it grew more and more with a variety of entertainment. You were so kind to put on the programs of your own making and sparing your precious time. Sometimes I felt it a shame that I could not express my emotions for such an excitement and pleasure, and sometimes I felt lonely not getting what you were saying to each other because of my poor English.
