(l-r- Lucy Palmer Emily Heaton Ellen Johnson Rogers wins art competition The Museum of Church History and Art announced winners in its Fourth International Art Competition: 150 Years of Pioneering, which celebrates tho sesquicentennial of the arrival of Mormon pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley in July 1847. Matthew Rogers, Glendale, won a youth Award of Merit with his woodcarving The Fid dler. His Award of Merit in- cluded $250. Matthews mother, Julie Rogers, and his two broth- ers, Jacob and Steven Rogers also submitted entries. Nearly six hundred artists from 38 states and 31 countries submitted new works of art on the pioneering theme including paintings, quilts, sculpture, photography, needlework, textiles, Kanab High School XPress presents ceramics, wood carvings, and pieces in other media. Entries were judged based on each artists creative expression of the theme and on the excellence of aesthetic and technical accomplishment. The current exhibit opened Saturday, March 22, and will close on Labor Day, Monday, September 1. The Museum is located across the street west ofTemple Square in downtown Salt Lake City. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Admission is free.
