Ruthie spent many years working for the University of Wisconsin-Madisoin the Economics, History, and Theater and Drama Departments. Upon her 75th year of life, Ruthie undertook a big adven-ture-sh- e moved to Utah with her daughter and family to help them run the Southern Utah News, where she was employed at the time of her death. Ruthie was an important part of the paper, and will be sorely missed. Always an active church member, Ruthie spent her early life playing piano for services. She will be fondly remembered by the Madison Church of Christ for her ever-read- y smile and membership there. Upon her move to Kanab, she became a devoted member of the United Church of Kanab and Fredonia. It gave her great pleasure to occasionally play the piano for services there. Ruthie was always involved in organizations. She headed the Salvation Army in Hillview, Illinois and was a member of several clubs there. In Madison, Wisconsin, she was involved in the Fraternal Order of Eagles service club where she played the piano, was a member of the Kitchen Band and did clown acts to the delight of many. Ruth also added her voice to the Sweet Adelines harmony organization. In Utah, she was a member and served a year as President of the Hospital Auxilary. She was a member of the Kanab Womens n, Ruth Della Koontz, 80, of Kanab, UT passed away on January 19, 1997. Ruthie, as she was so fondly called by many, was bom on a farm near Westville, Illinois on July 28, 1916 to Zono Lee and Ethel Lena Crouse. On December 26, 1940 in Hannibal, Missouri, she married her longtime sweetheart Ralph M. Koontz. Ruth and Ralph bought the Sunny Knoll apple orchard in 1949. Together with their family, the couple raised apples and pigs, and farmed the 180 acre farm. Sunday afternoons after church was a big time at the Koontz orchard when customers would come from all over to buy apples and cider. Moving away from the farm with youngest daughter Dixie after Ralphs death in 1967, Ruth went to work as a secretary at the Adjutant Generals office in Springfield, Illinois. She dearly loved and was incredibly proud of her family. Ruthie was a classy, fun lady, and a true blessing to all those who have known and loved her through the years. She is survived by children (Lana) Bryan Koontz, Middleton, Wisconsin; Michael (Judy) Koontz, McHenry, Illinois; Sherry (John) Pachciarz, Franklin, Tennessee; Maureen (Rick) Koehl, Black Earth, Wisconsin; and Dixie (Dennis) Brunner, Kanab,Utah; 17 grandchildren and four She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, and two grandsons - Derek Brunner and Clint Koehl. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kanab South Chapel, (next to the United Church).
