This award is a prestigious honor. In fact, the Academy recognizes less than 10 of all American Junior High students. Both students were nominated for this award by Jeannine Johnson, a teacher at the school. "Recognizing and supporting our youth is more important than ever before in America's history, noted Dr. George Stevens, Executive Director of W the Academy. Van spends many hours at the family ranch helping his father with the livestock and the many other ranching chores. Van can often be found running the tractor or cat, repairing fences or rounding up cattle. Through his hard work in the classroom, Van achieved an early graduation, but will go through commencement exercises with his classmates this week. Van is well known to students and faculty alike at Kanab High School, and he will be missed by everyone in the halls next year. Although he will be moving along to the next phase of his life along with many fellow graduates, Van will be remembered for his sensitive nature, high personal standards, honesty and persistence.
