Glen Mayer A reply to Sarzynski Dear Editor: After I read the recent article written by LeeAnn Sarzynski on the Wilderness issue, I would like to give her some more information. She says she is well informed. I would like to point out some very important principles of proper government that were instituted by our founding fathers of the Constitution, that will show she is another and that she is not well informed on correct principles of government as laid down by the framers. This is really a question of Democracy and of States Rights. Do-Good- The framers were well SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS er, ac- quainted with a democratic form of government, and they abhorred it. They framed a democratic Republic. Emphasis on Republic. Democracy is never mentioned in the Constitution. We pledge allegiance to the Flag and to the Republic . We dont pledge anything to a Democracy. The United States was set up as a republic and we are operating it like a democracy and thats the problem. In a democracy, the majority always rules. If there are ten people and six of them vote to hang the other four, thats legal and thats a democracy. Thats mob rule. LeeAnn Sarzynski says the federal lands (BLM) belong to all the people of the United States. The framers said the land belongs to the people of the state they reside in. There were provisions for the state to own land and for school sections to provide for funding the education of our children, but no provision for the federal government to own any of state land unless they bought it. This is reflected in the fact that a lot of the states east of the Mississippi River have little or no BLM and federal land. This includes Texas. Because the majority of the population are in those eastern states, they voted to stop the homesteading and state. They managed this also by arranging to take away states rights. Since our senators are no longer elected by the states, but now by the people, the states have no representatives in Congress. Now the senators seek the favor of the people to get reelected (which produces politicians) and pay little attention to the state legislators who were originally the electors of the U.S. Senators (which produced statesmen.) Each state had an equal amount of representation in the senate and still has, but the original intent and results have been changed. So when LeeAnn Sarzynsky says the federal lands in the western states are owned by all the people of the U.S. , lets make it fair. Each state should give to the federal government an equal percentage of land so I can go to Texas or New York or wherever and say just what she is saying Lumber Plus celebrates Grand Opening about the land in Utah (which is 75 owned by the feds).
