Show B SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS Opinion im A. No, they are a group of citizens Letters Continued from Page 4 have been another act of greed. Maybe the greed was evident in the profit sharing, or service awards, or maybe it was the steak dinners, none ofwhich was a requirement of Kaibab. Unlike LuElla, I want to express my appreciation to Kaibab Industries. They have given me ten years of income to provide for my family. They have given me the best medical benefits possible, free of charge. They have shared their profits with me and accepted the burden of the losses. They have allowed me to develop skills that will be invaluable to me. I know that the reasons for the shutdown are a far cry from greed on the part of those good Kaibab men, but more closely based on ignorance of the populace. Thanks again, Kaibab Industries, I appreciate the ten years, and hope for nothing but the best for the sawmill operation in our neighboring city of Panguitch. Belinda Hunter Thanks for a job well done Dear Editor: We would personally like to extend a great big Thank-yo- u to all those who helped at the Region 13 basketball tourna- ment this past weekend. The light show was fantastic! Thanks guys! Since we were over ticket sales we would especially like to thank all the people that volunteered their time to help with tickets. Thanks to all of you, the tournament was able to run smoothly. There were close to 400 volun- teers that helped with the tournment and we appreciate you all. We sure hope that everyone enjoyed the tournament and thanks again to everyone. Mary Glazier, Sue Jackson, Harriett Perkins C.A.R.E. fact or fiction Dear Editor: As a part of the group formed to represent the feelings of citizens of our district, we would like to take this opportunity to help answer some questions that may be confusing to some. Q. Why the movement of C.A.R.E.? A.To restore a line of communi- cation between citizens and school officials. Q. Are the people behind C.A.R.E. just a few rebels? workingtogether with more than overwhelmingsupport of the voters of our community. (78) Q. Is this a Bingham issue? A. It is not. However, it is true that Mr. Bingham has the support of our group, the teachers, law enforcement, merchants, and most important, the majority of our citizens, but like other issues, not the support of the school board. Q. Does CARE, believe in the democratic process? A. Yes, we believe that when the majority speaks, that should be the path to follow. This brings us to the statement made a few weeks ago in the paper by a school board member, The board has no say in this expenditure (speaking of recall costs). The real fact is the majority has spoken, and the members up for recall have had, or shortly will have, the opportunity to resign. This puts the unneeded expense decision on their shoulders. If they believe in the democratic process they will step down because 78 have spoken out for the change. This is a test for them to pass. Do they care about the community? Do they want to avoid this unneeded expense? The decision is theirs to make, but the majority has already asked and the recall process gives them a chance to resign. Q. Is there a reason for nonrenewal of Mr. Binghams con- Thanks from the Kanab Variety Arts Dear Editor: On behalf of Kanab Variety Arts Council, I wish to thank everyone for the support given Produce for Victory World War II exhibition. The City Park has been treated just as badly. There are a lot of good people here working hard to make our area a better place to live and we all should pitch in and do our part. We have a beautiful area here but we could lose it if we arent willing to help the police put a stop to those responsible for destroying public and private property. So, be a good neighbor and keep your eyes open for those that vandalize property and call the police. They cant be everywhere. It is up to all of us to help. We should teach our children about the great effort and many sacrifices it takes to keep dictators in check. When we moved to Kanab about ten years ago I was so impressed by the library and the librarian. To think that a town the size of Kanab had such a good library spoke well of the people in town who thought enough of their children and their own Tifetime edu- - cationalpursuits, thattheywould put it on their list of priorities. The building was made of beautiful sandstone and had the flavor of an earlier era. Someone had hired a person, the bravest per- son Ive ever known, despite, cere- bral palsy, as the librarian. This spoke well of the citizens understanding hearts, their tolerance, patience, and charity (in the finest sense of the word). This choice of a librarian gave mothers, fa- thers, grandmothers and grandfathers a great opportunity to teach these same virtues to their children and grandchildren when they took them to the library. There the children could see bravery played out in the face of adversity everyday. For those who were offended by this choice, and because of the great work load placed upon one librarian, otherswerehiredtohelp. What a good example orBrotherly love, and service to our neighbors.
