| Show missionary LETTER leffell copenhagen denmark july 21 24 1914 it Is ie nearly four months since my iny wife and I 1 bado bade our loved ones good bye in good old brigham I 1 was appointed to take charge ot of the company we numbered fifty eight grown people and three children we were given two cars care one sleeper and one coach and no one else allowed in our cars the railroad company sent bent a special man to look after us we stopped over 9 hours in omalia visiting also in chicago where we stayed one day from there we went to buffalo where our cars were cut off and coupled on to the niagara falls train and there our cars were sidetracked and we spent the day taking in the sights bights next morning we e awoke in montreal canada we spent the day sight bight seeing we arrived at st SL john next day at here we met pres 11 J and three other elders from salt lake city and two tourists they joined our company and we all went aboard the victorian and set sail at p in I 1 am pleased to say we were treat ed royal by the railroad officials and had a very pleasant trip we held meetings nearly every evening in a the train tile the weather vas as beautiful be when we set sail but as evening came on a storm came also and it lasted about 36 hours and by this time the majority of our company was sea sick and very few responded to the call of the meat meal bell this state of affairs continued for three days and ana then we had good weather and everybody regained their appetites we were all happy to step on shore at liverpool a number of elders who conducted us to the loed nelsons belsons Nel sons hotel where we were well taken care of for tour four days while here our company scattered out oui to nearly every mission in europe next we took train for grimsby here we set sail across the north sea which took us two nights and one day to cross as it was very foggy we landed at esbjerg all 0 K and left for copenhagen where were met by the elders who escorted us to our place of abode I 1 wish to say right here that as soon as I 1 set foot ou ot danish soil I 1 felt that I 1 was just where the lord wanted me and I 1 have felt so ev r since my wife and I 1 were assigned to this conference and we set to work at once to learn the language and preach the gospel I 1 find a very good people here but very independent and dont care much about the gospel I 1 began to see I 1 knew but very little about the danish language as they speak it here in copenhagen As soon as I 1 began to talk they would say I 1 was from jylland I 1 have that dialect it im easy matter tor for me to learn the language but I 1 had only been here a few days when I 1 was appointed to take charge of this branch and preside over this conference so that meant to me that I 1 must learn leam the language or at least try I 1 felt very thankful that I 1 could understand and speak a little but when it became my ay duty to take charge of meetings and leal leaa out tn in many duties that belong to ane post poal tion I 1 hold it was no light task 1 I shall never forget my first strip trip out in tho the different branches of this conference all alone among strangers new country new faces and worse tian tan all a new language the saints met me at the depot and were anxious to see and hear their now new president I 1 felt pleased to see the respect they had for me but I 1 felt sorry to think that I 1 could not express my appreciation tor for their kindness I 1 did the best I 1 could and the lord helped me and we got along fine the lord has blessed me la in so many ways that I 1 can truthfully say that the promises given to me before leaving salt lake have been fulfilled sister jensen and I 1 are comfortably located and enjoying our labors very much she speaks and reads the language good I 1 have elders arel jensen I 1 melvin C olsen and grover jonsen jensen all from brigham city in my conference and I 1 wish to say they are fine young men also john W christensen from bear river city I 1 wish we had more like them I 1 find the people here very nice polite neat and clean in their appearance the children loot look neat and clean and it is a most beautiful city we thank you for the box elder news As soon as it comes to the office we drop everything and read the news from home with kind regard to you from all the elders and many of the saints who well remember you I 1 see your picture in quite a number of homes JENSEN |
