Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS TUESDAY JANUARY 12,1993 Opinion 4 D Ml Speaks You'll probably be pleasantly-surprise- d to read Rich-d Negus' interview with Coconino County Supervisor Paul Babbitt in theSUN this week. Several things Babbitt said will give northern Arizona and southern Utah conservatives reason to give a collective sigh of relief. Paul Babbitt expressed a genuine interest in providing financial assistance to the beleaguered Kane County n financial woes from poor Ambulance, whose Arizona collections have been often expressed of late. Babbitt said he believes there are available funds which can be tapped into, including Arizona State and Coconino County money. We hope you follow through on your statements, Mr. Babbitt, because the essential service to Arizona will be threatened if the Kane County Hospital doesn't get some financial relief soon. Babbitt also expressed an interesting idea when questioned about tourism. He said that 87 of Arizona's population sits in the desert and bakes five months of the year. He said that our area would be a perfect vacation don't we spot for them. Babbitt's point is market our area more to southern Arizona and Nevada? You don't have to drive cross country to enjoy a vacation, especially out here. Tourism officials should look at the example Wisconsin and Minnesota set on redprical tourism. The two states had enormous success targeting each vacation destination. other as a tank of gas, get-awPerhaps the most exciting part of the Babbitt interview was his apparent support of the proposed Andalex mine. He said that while he doesn't see heavy industrialization for this part of the world, he thinks that "Andalex will provide some wonderfully paid jobs for a long, long term." Although it's a push, we're going to take that as Babbitt's support for the mine, and we're grateful to hear a: well-know- well-taken-w- hy ay it. Babbitt said that this area's future isn't all that bleak. He said that many parts of the country would be grateful to have things like the Navajo Generating Station, increased tourism and the Andalex Warm Springs project. Thanks Paul Babbitt for cheering us up and cheering us on-w- e needed that. Oh, and by the way Paul, we will remember all the things you have said. Letters to the Editor What is your opinion?
