There is a big difference in the types of calls this year. The department acquired the Jaws of Life tool, and has responded to vehicle accidents where the tool has been put to good use. There were 33 of these calls. Structure fires accounted for 12 calls with a fire loss of only $6,100. Back in 1989, we had a fire loss of $1 60,000, and in 1 991 , a fire loss of$54,000.The department likes to believe that some fire prevention programs in the schools has contributed to lower fire loss. There were 1 5 grass and brush fires, and 5 trash type fires. Vehicle fires accounted for two calls with a fire loss of $12,000. The department was called out three times to clean up spills. Five calls were for malfunctioning of smoke alarms, and four for smoke scares or odors. Total fire loss for 1992 was only $18,100. What with the medical calls, the department made 12 runs into Arizona and 26 in to the county with 41 inside the city limits. When one looks at training, it shows the firemen are a well trained group. A total of 545 hours of special training was received. This is in addition to the 2-- 3 hours every Tuesday night when firemen meet for fire suppression, and other training required to do the job of fire fighting. Firemen are busy now practicing skills that will lead to Dr. David P. Nicholson Veterinarian Small Animals Housecalls made daily. Land sites for the new library were discussed, with sight selection being narrowed. As part of the application process for receiving the Community Development Block Grant, the Friends will be conducting a phone income survey. In order to comply with grant application requirements, the Friends will have to call over 300 residents and verify income levels. The caller will not know who they are calling, and will not ask for your name. The income survey is needed to verify community need levels. Your cooperation would be appreciated. |
