Show School SOUTHKRN UTAH NKWS Tl'KSDAY OTTOHKK 20. 1992 This is Red Ribbon Week By Joan Kalpakoff Inserted in your newspaper this week is a flyer with a red ribbon attached to it. The reason for the flyer is to remind you that it is Red Ribbon Week, the time for the nation to renew its comcommitment to drug-fremunities. Red Ribbon Weeks history began back in 19S5 when Federal Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique Camarena was murdered by drug traffickers. The red ribbon was adopted as a symbol of the fight against the demand for drugs just as the yellow ribbon came to symbolize the nations support for our troops in the Middle East. All over the nation this week students, policemen, clergymen, teachers, businessmen, senior citizens and others will be work e ing together to make our homes, communities and workplaces free from the problems caused by the use of drugs. Students throughout Kane County will be supporting Red Ribbon Week with activities that will include assemblies, parent education nights, wear red day, and other programs aimed at making their campuses drug-free- . It is the hope of those of us who are fighting for healthier communities that you will support Red Ribbon Week by wearing a red ribbon. Kane County has many ongoing programs whose goals are to make our communities drug-free- .
