Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS - Thursday, December 10, 1987 - Page Six Kanab, Orderville Students Among American Who's Who Valley High News by Ann Esplin The end of November and the first two weeks of December have been filled with Buffalo Spirit, and now the halls are echoing with Holiday Spirit as well. Most of the students are looking forward to Christmas vacation (Dec. 4). The boys basketball team played their first game on November 25 in Beaver. They came up 8 points short in that contest. Again, two nights later, the Buffaloes traveled, this time, to the Panguitch Bobcats home court to play. The experienced Valley team came from behind in the last half to win that key league game. December 4 and 5 home games brought for the Buffalo team. On Friday, Bryce Valley dished out a close loss to the varsity ball team. The next day, the Milford Tigers arrived in town primed and ready to win and that they did. Our home team really tried hard, but nothing seemed to be going and they came up 2 big points short of a double overtime victory. We all still believe in you guys and better luck this week. Fans, you can look forward to home games on December 12 against Kanab and on December 18 vs the Wayne county Badgers. There is also a game in Piute on December 11. On November 25 the Lady Buffs hosted the Kanab Cowgirls. Throughout the game the Valley High team had around a lead, but it wasn't an easy game. When the final buzzer sounded the Buffs were once again victorious. In the past week they boosted their record to 5 wins and 1 loss with a 40 point victory over Parowan. On December 9 and 10 Valley will host Wayne and Cedar. Keep up the good work. You ladies are doing an outstanding job! During the Thanksgiving holidays the Alumni Tournaments were hosted. The volleyball tournament added a special new addition to the alumni activity. Thanks, everybody, for supporting our alumni and at the same time supporting the scholarship fund. We all are looking to next years exciting games. Hey, Cheerleaders! Thanks for the awesome Pep Assembly and all the VflS students are glad you found our Outrageous Buffalo. 23-Ja- back-to-bac- ten-poi- k KMS Christmas Middle School Lists First Term Honor Roll -- 3.5 to 3.9 Becky Andrus, Jennifer Barnhurst, Tosha Button, Jessica Cooper, Robert Franklin, Jodi Hamblin, Jolene Hatch, Angela Lewis, Jennifer Merrell, Amanda Pepper, Kristy Pillmore, Luanna Shirley, Rosemary Stewart and Debra Taylor. -- B MONEY - USE IT OR LOSE IT ARTICLE I Henry Ford viewed money simply. Money, he said, "is like an it or lose it. arm or a leg-u- se Investing, however, is more complicated. Money must be invested prudently, or, as Ford warned, it will be lost. More people than ever are realizing this, as tremendous daily stock trading volume testifies. As more and more investors participate in the market, theyre leaving more of the decisions to professionals through the purchase of mutual funds. Mutual funds represent one of the fastest-growinsectors of the financial market. According to The Investment Company Institute, more than $750 billion is currently invested in the 2,000 different mutual funds, compared to just $600 billion in 1986. Nevertheless, the proper fund, like the proper stock, must be carefully selected and matched to your investment goals. - Jennifer Chynoweth, Erin Cram, William Heyborne, Daniel Holland, Jonathan Hyatt, Stephanie Jacobsen, Jennifer Judd, Sheri Lee, Danielle Luckett, Jenea McDonald, Kimberly Millett, Kelly Peper, Traci Rasmussen, Nathan Roberts, Cassie Swapp, Jennifer Thebeau, David Walker, Robert Watson, Lori Wilcox and Lorraine Willis. 3.5 to 3.9 day-to-da- y There are 1,678,815 Smiths in the United States. President Clark represents the Kanab Utah Stake and President Heaton represents the Kanab Utah South Stake. Counselors In Stakes Head Steering Committee by Forace Green Prior to the division of the Kanab Utah Stake the boundary of the Kanab Scout District and the Stake were the same. The division put two stakes in the District. Counselors in the Stake Presidencies assigned to the Aaronic Priesthood constitute, by appointment, the District steering committee. They are Pres. Raymond Clark in the North Stake and Pres. Gary Heaton in the South. Prior to the division. Pres. Joe Houston served for the entire district at the same time he was serving as a Council vice president. Pres. Clark started in the program in his youth and reached the Star Scout rank. He has reached many boys serving as assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster. He has served as Scouting Coordinator and District In all of these positions he has had a profound influence on boys. Probably the best indication of this influence is the fact that nearly all of the boys who reached the Eagle rank while he was Bishop of the Kanab Third Ward asked him to represent them as the speaker for them at their Eagle court of honor. He attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas: has served on the Kanab City Council, has an appliance sales and service business and is an electrical contractor. He is an avid reader and likes fishing and water sports. He is especially proud of his family. His wife is Linda and his children are Heather, Tara Lynn, Natalie, Aaron and Hayla Ray. At the time of the division of the Stake, Pres. Heaton was on the High Council, president of the Young Men and in charge of the Explorers in the stake and district, and was a district commissioner assigned to the Fredonia Second Ward. As Bishop of the Fredonia First Ward, he had the Aaronic Priesthood progrm and the boys in the Scouting program. He has spent most of his life in Church service: mission to Australia, branch presi dent, Elders Quorum counselor and president, ward executive secretary and counselor in the bishopric. Pres. Heaton has spent 25 years with kaibab Industries, where he is purchasing agent. He has also served on the Fredonia City Council. His wife is Karen and his children are Lorane, Tiffany, Jonathan, Tracy, Camille. These two men hold the success of the youth programs in the area in their hands. Under the direction of their Stake Presidents, they are responsible for the leadership that can given our boys the experiences g OVEREATERS ANONYMOUS Meet Wednesdays, 7 p.m. Fredonia County Bldg.
