A few meetings to discuss this have been held with little public response. Since the proposed zoning will affect everyone in Fredonia from now on, we feel they need to become informed and aware of just what the ordinances contain. People who plan to build, remodel or repair existing structures or fences; people who plan to open new businesses or continue old ones; people who maintain vacant lots; people who plan to move to Fredonia in the future; people who own mobile homes or prospective mobile home owners; backyard mechanics; livestock owners or breeders ALL need to be aware of what is in the proposed zoning ordinances. Request a copy of this proposed zoning ordinance from the Fredonia City offices. READ IT. Attend the meeting on December 15 at 7 p.m. in the city offices for your last chance at input before these zoning ordinances are adopted. Every dollar provided by the government was first earned by some taxpayer. If you are a socialist, the idea is to soak the rich and the middle class and then provide for the poor. If you are a conservative, the poor should either provide for themselves or the rich should voluntarily provide for them, but the government has no obligation beyond survival. conservative to According of the government purpose theory, is to provide economic options so that the only poor are those who refuse to take advantage of their opportunities. Using a hypothetical examples, the socialists would take fish from the fishermen and give to the fishless; the conservatives would teach a man how to fish for himself. If he refuses to fish for himself once knows how. then his plight is his ' vJwn prohJem.iTnot society s, or the government s. The road to opportunity from the conservative view is knowledge. Every child is provided with an to gain the skills opportunity become successful to necessary through free public education. The purpose is to provide every citizen whether rich or poor with the minimum necessary skills to compete effectively in a very competitive society. To give all citizens education is to give an equal opportunity at the beginning. The conservative freely confesses that life is full of winners and losers, but success is based on knowledge and commitment rather than birth or station. Socialists claim that in spite of free education the sons and daughters of the middle and upper classes will always compete more effectively than the poor because they are conditioned to such success and get reinforcement from outside the school. People are the products of their environment, so the only justice is not equality of opportunity but equality of condition. Everyone must win at the end of the race. In short, what the poor dont have in wages should be compensated for by the wealthier people. To the socialists, this is the supreme act of kindness and concern; to the conservatives, this act is pure theft. The conservatives ask: What incentive is there fcr the wealthier classes to produce, if it will be taken away? It can only logically follow that any attempt to take from those who have rightfully earned it to give to those who havent will eventually stunt the growth of the economy, and everyone will suffer the loss. Increased taxes to support the welfare system works in the same way. The loss in extra wages slows down productivity. No one wants to work if he cant get paid for it. Flu Season Cometh ' ' .
