The count is used as trend data since it takes several years to accurately access the population direction of an individual herd. For example, in 1986, the DWRs preseason count indicated that in northern Utah, there were 25 bulls to 100 cows and 52 calves. In central Utah, the 1986 count indicated 21 bulls to 100 cows and 49 calves. The count in northeastern Utah indicated 13 bulls to 100 cows and 52 calves. And in the southern Utah, the 1986 count indicated 14 bulls to 100 cows and 39 calves.
