A total of 2,278 books had been read during the last two and one-hamonths. lf Janine Swapp Gets SUSC Award ional Award to Janine Baker Swapp, a sophomore elementary education major living in Kanab who has maintained a 3.92 grade point average while working fulltime and caring for four young children. Enrolled in the SUSC Outreach Program in Teacher Education, the award recipient is taking classes in her hometown and working as a teachers aid. The Award includes a SUSC scholarship. Civic recognizes less than 10 percent of all American high school students. Miss Bowles, who attends Kanab High School was nominated for this National Award by Carol Penney, a History, Government and Yearbook Instructor at the school. Miss Bowles will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Offi Academy selects L'SAAA winners upon the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors or other school sponsors and upon the Standards of Selection set forth by the Academy. The criteria for selection are a student's academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a teacher or director. Brenda is the daughter of Duane and Gerry Bowles.
