Show I SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS - Thursday, May 30, 1985 - Page Four Vagabond Days Contests Brewing for Hot Shots During Desert Vagabond Days J une 14 and 15 in Kanab, Utah there w ill be two shooting activities and a Western Cooking Contest. To cook up these events you start with experienced people. One of our more professional cooks in the county, Julie Ingersol, our County Home Extension Agent, has organized the cooking contest for that Saturday afternoon. To find men experienced with guns, you can find no better men than Edward DeMille of the Utah Highway Patrol, a top instructor in any class, and Don Dastrup, president of the Kanab Trap Club. These three events will be scored or judged as is appropriate for each contest. The Western Cooking Contest will be for Dutch-ovecooking in four categories: breads, desserts, meats, combination and other. Any limit. person can enter any class-- no This event will be at Kanab City Park beginning at 3 p.m. with judging to start at 5:30. There will be one shooting event each day. Friday's event will be at the Utah Port of Entry with a different target-t- he deadly drunk driver as symbolized on paper targets. This scored shoot is from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. with .22 rim fire rifles only. The Saturday event will be at the Kanab Trap Range south of town beginning at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be avariety of different types of shoots. Entries will be classed by shooting ability with plenty of prizes. With these three top individuals cooking up such hot activities they need just the final ingredients eager participants and appreciative spectators. Applications Being Sought Congressman Jim Hansen has announced that his office is still accepting applications for nominations for the four U.S. service academies (Air Force, Army, Merchant Marine and Navy). Those applications will be accepted until n 15, 1986. I urge all young people who are interested in attending a service January academy to obtain a nomination application from my office (Room 1113 Longworth House Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20515) as soon as possible, Hansen said.
