ISSN No. 0049-165- Three Rs Needed LETTERS TO THE EDITOR What Has Happened To Morals? On reading the article in the Spectrum of Jan. 1, 1 was thoroughly disgusted. 1 also heard the same thing on the Channel S news on Friday, Dec. 30. It has taken me this long to get my thoughts together and not write something 1 might regret. I quote: RULES AGAINST "JUDGE UTAH LAW: MINORS MAY GET BIRTH CONTROL WITHOUT NOTIFICATION OF PARENTS. Winder ruled the state law unconstitutionally infringes on the right of minors to decide whether to bear children. He also said it violated federal law governing the use of family planning funds." Winder said the state may not impose a blanket parental notification requirement on minors seeking to exercize their right to decide whether to have children." According to Planned Parenthood, Teen-ageshould have the right to decide whether they have a baby or whether they dont. This is not a decision that should even be considered by an un married teen. Where are our morals? This country is falling into moral decay, because we are being legislated into moral decay. We are in a worse state of moral decay than the early civilizations that have fallen. This is all being brought about by organizations and legislation meddling in things that should be left alone. Here are a few examples: rs Legalize abortion and kill millions of innocent children who will 1. never have a chance to make a decision was made by the legislature. 2. Hunt down the professional prostitute because they take money. Yet, legalize birth control for the Teens so they may give the same service free; and make them think because they can obtain birth control, that society approved of their actions. 3. After killing all these innocent babies by abortion, who may have been normal, human healthy, beings, the medical profession will take babies who have no chance to survive on their own, and hook them up to life support systems, running up a bill that parents will never be able to pay. The minute the life support is removed, the babies succumb. decision-t- he Society has been plagued with these problems since time began, and didn't need lawmakers or organizations to handle them. your time making laws that are important and for the good of the majority. Stay out of things that are none of your business. Let parents teach and advise their children and solve their own family problems. As for Planned Parenthood", it should be exactly that-f- or married couples who have the legal right to plan the size of their family according to each individual desire and circumstance. Dobson Wants To Talk To X 1. 1 don't believe athletics should take precedence over everything else. When I was in school, ball games were only on weekends. Our school hosted 8 ball games on Tuesday night. Tuesday night has been M.l.A. night since the beginning. As parents, we thought we had the support of the school board that this would not be allowed to take place. If a cheerleader misses a ball game, she is marked down in that class. What choice does she have? 2. The school system is putting demands on our children that is not humanly possible, and then when there just isn't enough time to study, we get on to the kid because he is lazy. For instance: I kept my girl home from a ball game because she was behind in her studies. In order to make up for that so she wouldn't get a bad grade in she worked three cheerleading, hours on a poster for a ball game, so 1 might as well let her go to the ball game. The next day she was out Of town on a bus trip. These two things caused her to fall behind again. What percentage of those kids go on to be professional athletes nr cheerleaders? I would like to see some of this extra curricular stuff cut out. It is with our children's interfering education. If it can't be cut down; above all, a student should have a choice of taking part, and shouldn't be marked down if it is impossible to participate in activities away from school. Since first starting this article, the following events took place three nights in a row: 1. A speech meet in St. George. 2. A marching competition review in Beaver. 3. A solo ensemble concert. The Governor would be surprised if some new policies were implemented in all the schools in Utah. traPolicies regulating vel, how much money can be spent on athletics, and put this on an even basis with music, drama, home economics, etc. Each time the students travel for these other activities, they always have to have money. This is not a fact with the athletic department. Above all, lets quit giving our students more than they can handle. Get back to teaching them the academic skills needed to meet the demands of the outside world. These can be taught in the classroom, then we wouldn't have to listen to that same old cry for money every year. out-of-to- These thoughts are entirely my own, and do not reflect the opinion of my daughter, or the actions of any one school. This applies only to the system in general. Reva Anderson, YOU & Drug Pcrepherndia Thursday Tonite AJarch 29th 7:00 PJA. Elementary School Alultipurpose Room Hot R? WHERE ARE THE THREE 1 listened intently to the Governor's plea for money for education. I was not impressed with his plea for money. I agree that something should be done about the school system, but it could be accomplished without millions of dollars of the taxpayer' money. We have our priorities in the wrong place. Let's get back to the three "R''s. After all, learning academic skills is what is important. Let me explain: 1 am tired of hearing about the poor, underpaid school teacher. Some of them earn twice as much as people living on fixed incomes. I know, because it is published in the Kane County budget. This is for nine month's work. They are free to work during the summer if they choose. The school system is putting extra curricular activities ahead of learning that can be used in the future. Let me give some examples: Glendale, Utah. About Drugs lYSsrf To Lock In Local Schools For. To Da 17c Hsyq A Rcccgr.ize It. Yikct To Do About It. Prcblso? I YES, Me Da!!! Fredonia Police Report Fredonia Police Department reports a total of 12 calls from March 3 to March 22. These included 6 alcohol related of which one was a DUI, 1 animal, 1 DES assist and 1 criminal damage. The criminal damage was a broken window at the Exxon Cedar Grill. If anyone has any information concerning this it would be appreciated. The other calls were miscellaneous. On March 16 Marshal Mark Johnson was in Flagstaff where he attended an A DO PS Criminal Justice Support Bureau meeting. He obtained information on Crime Laboratory work and items available to police and how they can be used. Horse Startles Semi Driver he was driving tipped over on Highway 89 near Church Wells.
