Hospital Highlights Studies Clear Saccharin Three important studies of the artificial sweetener, saccharin, commissioned by Congress as a result of a threat by the Food and Drug Administration to ban the product, have been completed. To quote the results, ....the artificial sweetener saccharin is responsible for little, if any, cancer of the urinary tract and bladder. The studies were conducted in 1982 by the National Cancer Institute, Harvard Universitys of Public Health and the American Health Foundation. Instead of gorging rats with School abnormal amounts of the sweetener, the three independent research agencies tested saccharin on some 4,000 human subjects. When they were through the researchers said they could find no link between saccharin and cancer. and Senator Edward M. Kennedy the chief sponsor in Congress of legislation to ban the substance, that there was no reason to eliminate the sweetener which is so essential to the diets of diabetics and others who must restrict their sugar intake. As the Georgia newspaper, The Atlanta Constitution'' put it, We do not wish to castigate the FDA for trying to follow the law and restrict or ban the use of agents that may cause cancer. We believe the FDA has done valuable work in this field. Kane County Hospital would be happy to respond to any health care questions you may have. Millie Brown, Afton Jameson and Wanda Jenkins were selected to see what had ever happened to the piano the Literary League and Lions Club had purchased years ago and placed in the Kanab Club Room, which was in the basement of the library. This room was used year after year for facilities were built. The piano was found in a back room in a corner where it had been put to die its own death. The club room w as now being used by the High School for a class. The ladies had Robin Hamblin look it over and he told them there was still lots of use with a little tuning, which he did. Mr. Church, manager of the bank, was happy to have the piano. The credit for the actual moving goes to Afton Jameson and her husband. Karl. She never gave up until she found a crew to move it. Mr. Hafen sent some of his big, husky gym boys to give a hand and the Glover boys loaned the moving equipment. The women gave it a good cleaning and polishing, restoring its former dignity and life. It does not have a bench but Mr. Church said he would think about the Bank getting one. The League thanks all of those who helped in any way.
