We have had awards, recognitions and elections in the Valley and Glendale - all these add to our busy schedules. Sylvia Allred enjoyed a short visit from her who is from Murray. He came to Cedar City on business and stopped in for a few minutes. presented the Honorary Chapter Farmer to Bruce Harris. Our town does look somewhat better as most of the townspeople turned out on Saturday to participate in Clean-uDay. There were members from 2 years old to some over 70 years old. Thanks to everyone who helped. Myma Cox and Pauline Robinson, two of the E.M.T.s from Glendale went to a training convention in Park City on Friday and Saturday. They said it was well worth the time and money spent. We appreciate these people and the knowledge they have to help in emergency situations. Our town delegates attended the Republican convention last week: Drew Robinson, Dick Spencer, and Sandra Drew. Roger Chamberlain and Kay Barton were elected as State delegates to the convention in Salt Lake City June 25 and 26. Last Tuesday, the Scout Troop 367 held a court of honor. Jim Willis was the speaker and leaders Sheldon Roundy, Eric Brinkerhoff and Kevin Maxwell presented 19 boys with awards of advancement and merit badges. Wesley Brinkerhoff received the Eagle Scout award which is the highest award in Mrs. and Cal Clow made a quick trip into Salt Lake Citv and back over the weekend. Mrs. Geneva Workman has been all the way from a 0 Moccasin to Las Vegas to Fillmore and to Salt Lake City to visit her children and grandchildren this past ter. She is glad to be back home and we are glad to have her. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Harris and family and Naomi Hall and daughters and LaDonna went to Arizona over the weekend to attend the wedding of their son and brother, Wayne Harris. Glendale was honored to have the new FFA officers from here. Boys Harris handed the presidents gavel down to his brother, Burt. Ray Spencer is Vice President and Wes Brinkerhoff gave up his position of Sentinal to his brother, Mike. They also win- Vickie Heaton and Joseph Farnsworth Iteaton-Farnswort- h wedding Mr. and Mrs. Lovd W. Heaton are proud to announce the marriage of their daughter, Vickie, to Mr. Joseph Patrick Farnsworth, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Franklin Farnsworth on May 28, 1982 in the St. George LDS Temple. Vickie is a 1981 graduate of Valley High School and has been attending SUSC, majoring in Business Education. Joseph graduated in 1974 from Beaver High School where he was active in sports and served an LDS mission in the Japan Fukuoka Mission. He is now studying accounting at SUSC. reception will be held in the Alton Ward Cultural Hall on Friday, May 28, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and an open house will be held on Saturday, May 29, at the Greenville Ward Cultural Hall from 8 to 10 p.n). Everyone is A invited. ADOT Schooling Pete and Lael Johnston spent three days in Phoenix last week. Pete attended an ADOT Maintenance Conference held at the Rodeway Inn. Lael just enjoyed the time spent around the pool. Melva Tucker went as far as Camp Verde with them where she stopped off to visit her son, Carl, and his family. After some hard snow removal, Pete and his crew got their portion of the North Rim road open right on schedule. Bright and early, 6 a.m. on May 15, the gate was opened to traffic. The art of knitting is said to have originated in Scotland. Sam Cox was awarded the 2nd Class badge; First Class Scouts are Dave Spencer and Ryan Brinkerhoff, Brian Harris, John Brinkerhoff and Mike Brinkerhoff received their Star badge. The Life to badge was presented William Spencer, Lynn Spencer, Stephen Chamberlain and Mick Barton. We are proud of these boys and leaders and their accomplishments. Brother Royce Young of the High Council and his wife were the speakers in Sacrament meeting. They bore their testimonies on the law of tithing. Their oldest daughter played a piano solo of her own composition. Bishop Spencer read the memberships of the Gavton Geveland family and the Jim Maxwell family. Seminary graduation was held in Orderville on Sunday. Graduates from Glendale are Wes Brinkerhoff, Boyd Harris, Margarett Anderson, Jan-n- a Campbell, Barbara Spencer and Shana Spencer. Jean Esplin received a three-yea- r certificate. Brad Barton, son of Kay Barton, will be spending the next week or so in the hospital with a broken leg. He is only six and will miss Mother Goose and graduation-tou- gh break! Carmel, Utah. Visiting over the weekend at Bishop Gerald and Elaine Spencer's home is Mrs. Leila Earl, an aunt. She is here from her home in Arizona. Ruben and Beth Nielsen were in Grand Junction last week end to hear their son, Warner, play in the Symphony Orchestra at Montrose, Colo. Their daughter, Wanda, came out from Hurricane to accompany them. Mr. and Mrs. Rex McArthur joined his sister, Annie, and husband, Leon Jennings, of St. George, Monday on a trip to Provo, where they all attended the funeral service of their cousin, Earl Cottom, who died after a lingering illness. We received word this week of the death of Thirza Mahala Watson Little, age 93, who died May 9, 1982 in a Cedar City hospital. Born Glendale Robins, (Marie) Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 12 She was preceded in death by a son Relatives here received news of a new baby boy. born on May 3, to Rendal Don and Jolene Esplin of LaPoint, Utah. The new boy weighed in at 6 pounds, he has one Mrs. H.K. (Wanda) Brown, Layton, Utah; Dee and Gary W., both Cedar City, Mrs. Joe Warner Robinson, (Thirza) mw j daughter, 1 participated in a rigorous tryout procedure, including pom pon routines, cheers, and jumps before she was chosen There were only three new cheerleaders selected tor next year's squad. Jolaine has been a Jr. Varsitv leader and Cheer- Varsity at Valley High School. She was also recently selected as a Sterling Scholar Winner in Business and has received several scholarships because of her abilities. She has been active in Valleys excellent Business Program. Editor of the school newspaper. Drum Majorette for the marching band and member of the concert band and she currently holds the highest G.P.A. at the high school. Funeral services were held I I Wednesday at p.m. in Cedar 2nd Ward chapel. Burial was I I in Cedar City cemetery. I Rhona Franklin and Raleigh took their four sons, Keith, I Travis, Christopher and Casey j Jo to Ivins Saturday to visit j grandparents, Dean and Mary j Lou Hafen, and also took care of business in St. George. Bill and Rita Spencer took their family to Las Vegas last weekend on business and to visit relatives.
