The ball games in the Round Robin tournament have taken much of our time this week. We are proud of the Valley boys and hope to see them on to another victory this week. The sportsmanship trophy the boys won was a lesson to some of the fans. I hope the fans will take a lesson from them in the games at Dixie. We in the Valley are saddened at the tragedy and loss of Dr. Stander and the Lee family. It sure brings things close to home when deaths like these occur. Hal Hamblin, Kanab coach, says that South Rich won their region and they look EZ good and Dugway should also be strong this year. Kanab played Dugway Wednesday (score unavailable at press time). South Summit should also be a strong team. one-poi- 57-4- 4 79-5- 8 9 excellent interior defense, keeping Kanab away from the basket and at the same time being content to go for only the good shots themselves, and being in the lead, they were able to pretty well control the tempo of the game. Kanab shot more in the first half than their opponents, but made less. Cowboy fans were hopeful that after a "mild half-tim-e session their charges would come back in the second half to make a game of it. However, they were unable to change the tide and the Bulldogs continued to dominate the game until in the final minutes when Kanab made a mild comeback, but it came too late. Saturday night, the story was much the same. A Beaver team let Kanab know quickly that they were there with intentions of winning and taking away the third place honors. There was hope deep in the breast of the Cowboy fan even 0 though Kanab trailed after eight minutes of play. The second quarter, however, was disastrous as Kanab scored only four field goals and three free throws while No. 20 throws a shot up over the outstretched hands of a defender while teammate Bill Vaughn No. 30 prepares to go for a possible rebound. Kanab lost two games Friday and Saturday. Doug Mousaw 14-1- the Beavers doubled that output with 22 points to take a lead into the locker room 36-2- 1 at half-tim- Kanab came back during the third period and scored equally with the Beavers, but that still left them on the downhill side of a score as the final eight minutes begun, and during those final moments Kanab was unable to match the torrid shooting of Beavers Hutchings as he hit five field goals and one free throw for 11 last quarter points. Scott Robertson had a good night at the hoop, scoring 18 points, but with only one other Cowboy in double figures, the score was too lopsided to even make an exciting ending. Hutchings led Beaver with 21 points. So the Cowboys will be entering the state tournament at St. George this weekend in fifth place from Region 12. Scott Robertson left of Kanab and Wayna Jones of Valley were among the young men chosen on the All Region 12 basketball team last Saturday at Panguitch. Both young men will be counted on heavily this week during State Class 1A play in St. George. COMPUTERS 54-3- 9 fSppkz computer W Authorized Dealer Our computers grow with you... The Cowboys could have sat by the fireside and savored the three-poin- t wins and they had recorded in the first weekend of play, but no, they returned only to come away defeated and humiliated by the losing to Gunnison first night and then with a resounding loss at the hands of Beaver Saturday. Nothing seemed to go right for Kanab. They could not purchase a basket from outside with a bushel of gold, and the stingy Bulldogs kept them away from the inner perimeters of the scoring area. Although Kanab scored first it was not long until Gunnison had tied the game and moved ahead, leading 12-- at the end of the first period.
