The Badgers racked up 26 points in the final period while Kanab put in only 13, and as the final few seconds ticked away, it was anyones game, but Kanab held on literally by the skin of their teeth. Center Bill Vaughn led the Cowboy charge with 25 points while Kirt Rippstein scored high for the Badgers with 16. The final score was Kanab wasnt expected to And that's not exaggerating. In the Friday early after- noon game, the Cowboys opened up a substantial lead over the Wayne Badgers, outdistancing them by 14-- at the end of the first eight minutes. Then Saturday evening they entered the court as underdogs to a favored Panguitch Bobcat team, only to come away with a 5 58-5- stay victory. was erratic, to say the least, from both teams standpoint. Both teams shifted defenses between man to man and zone and it seemed that neither could mount a serious offense. Scoring was slow, but Kanab continued to push ahead and by intermission time had a comfortable Fridays game 9 37-4- lead. four-poi- advantage over the smaller Badgers, leading as they entered the final stanza by Friday. Coach Hamblin elected to give 45-2- 56-5- During the final period Valley Takes Escalante 4-- 6-- quarter, but when Valley started to hit, they came ahead 10-- 6 at the end of the quarter. The Buffaloes missed 5 out of 5 foul shots to the Moquis 7 for 11. But the Buffaloes still remained ahead at half-time. Both teams played great ball and it was a highly entertaining game for both sides of the court, even though it may have been nerve wracking for many. Kanab outscored the Bobcats in the third period and pulled to within three points as they headed down the stretch, Both teams really got things moving in the final period and scored heavily.
