Show SOUTHERN UTAH NEWS - Thursday, February 4, 1SS2 - Page Three 1 Parle Improvements BY Ida White On a cold, wintry day, maybe you would rather stay in by a cozy warm fire and think of the Good Old Summer Time, the picnics, family reunions, ball games, swimming, tennis, parties, and cookouts, all to be enjoyed at our City Park and its facilities. For the year 1981, the following things were accomplished at the City recreation area, spearheaded by Duff Pugh: Cement under all tables, new drinking fountains by cookout area, fourteen new tables and benches, the Vernon Black picnic spot up in the canyon, consisting of 2 tables and a cement block, Kimber Heaton outdoor cookout place, located up in the canyon, the leveling of the Little League Ball Park east of the present park, leveling of the Canyon ball park by Jack Mognett and sons, a cold storage house for large parties and reunions, the Little League bleachers finished and painted. Also is listed the following money spent from July 4th proceeds: $210 for bolts and nuts for tables, $1000 given to City to help maintain the park, $750 for fireworks, $250 for band, $100 for paint and hardware from Glovers, $15 to George Ottley for work on fountain and $1700 to Goyd Word was received this week of the death of Mrs. Nellie P. Whiting, 72, former resident of Kanab. She died Friday, Jan. 29, 1982 at the home of Dr. Rudger P. Hiatt in Mesa. Mrs. Whiting was the wife of the late Ralph E. Whiting, one of the original Whiting Brothers, who started the sawmill business in this area that has evolved into the present Kaibab Industries. She was an active member of the LDS Church and an accomplished musician, having sung with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with the first broadcast, and serving as. ward chorister in several LDS wards. She was also active in Sunday School and Relief Society of the Church and also served four years as a guide on the Mesa Temple grounds. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She is survived by sons, Mrs. Leah Jackson to be honored on 80th anniversary Lester E., John L., Donald P. and Rodney L. all of Grand Junction, Colo.; and Dr. Rudger P.
