Kenny Robinson and Jimmy Togerson had the 8th and 9th fight of the night. Kenny met a black fighter from Salt Lake City Police Athletic League. His name was Eugene Arceneaus. buddy, Gene Nelson, was knocked out in the previous fight and was carried out of the ring. When Robinson's fight started his opponent started off with three quick punches, but Kenny pressured him into the ropes and then uncorked a tremendous left hook that knocked out Arceneaus. After he had been counted out. he still lay on the canvas His friend, who was knocked out in the previous fight had recovered and quickly leaped into the ring and hit Robinson in the face. It almost started a riot. Robinsons trainer, Tim Kelly, protested the punch to the Golden Glove officials because the punch cut Robinson on the nose in two places. Kelly was afraid that Robinson would not be able to fight the next night, but later it was found that the cuts were not that bad. After the ring was cleared, Arceneaus was carried out of the ring and there was a forty minute delay while the doctor stayed with him until they took him to the hospital. He didn't regain consciousness until 6 oclock the next morning. The next fight was Jimmy Togersons turn. The fight was pretty even through the first round until Togerson launched a left hook of his own and dropped his oppoonent to his knees. The second round Togerson went to work with his left hand and cut the right eye of the boxer from Stan's Boxing Club came from the crowd and articles were thrown into the ring and at the judges. Booing rang out until the next fight started. The largest crowd in 40 years was at the Golden Gloves that night. Robert West had the next fight but had to quit after the second round, but not of his own will. Trainer Kim Kelly had the referee stop the fight.
