Western Union will charge to your the e phone number, the number of Western Union is WHEN DID THEY? Another Spring. . . and another graduating class. Makes one reflect on the words of the song by Papa in Fiddler on the Roof as he lamented the growing up of his children: Sunrise, Sunset, swiftly flow the years. . What happened. . . when did they grow up. . . how did this happen so fast! I What. . .when. . .how? We cant answer those questions, we only look with amazement at what the passage of time had brought about in the local youngsters and as we see them now standing on the threshold of life we hold back the tears, and swallow the lump in the throat, and exclaim, Thats the way life is. As the graduates of 1978 come to the end of their high school education, they receive advice from every quarter about what they ought to do as they step out Join the on their own, as it were: . education. Army, .Continue your . .Get a good steady job. Most advice given to the grads is well meant and generally very good advice. As we watch this years senior group leave the old school grounds, we would like to add our "sage advice to that already given. While we dont want to weigh your , shoulders down with ponderous problems, we want you to know that our future, your future, and our nations future, depends largely on you and other young people like you. You, graduates, will be the mayors, the presidents, the congressmen, the clergymen, the astronauts, and the businessmen of the future, and in the various capacities that you aspire to, you will be the backbone of America. Many young people, in their young and innocent "prime of life feel the necessity of sowing their wild oats. This, generally, -- is not a bad, thing,, Another year come and of the prison. Stuffed around the base of the flat were grasses, and as these grasses waved in the afternoon breeze, it gave the odd effect of a penitentiary built on the foundation of wild oats. American cant afford to have a backbone grown through and through with wild oats. In this day of availability of drugs, alcohol and other undesirable elements, that have proven to be opposites of good, it becomes more and more important that Americas youth shy away from sowing of wild oats. No one lives long enough to make all the mistakes. . .we must benefit by the mistakes others have made. Too many homes have been broken, too many jobs lost, too many marriages wrecked, and too many lives adversely affected by use of these things. Straighten up your back bone. . .be a real man. . .be a real woman. . .no one is a bom loser, . .each is unique. . .you will be what you think you are. . .all are bom to be winners. ..I am I, and you are you. . .accept yourself and develop your potential. . .each is responsible for his own life, you cannot blame others for your failure or problems. Its all ever-increasi- good advice. gone, here it is time for another graduation. This week will see just over 100 local youngsters graduate from high school, and to most parents of graduates, it seems like only a few days ago that they were gleefully on their way to the first day of kindergarten. The following article, written by Mary Gae Evans of Parowan, and published in the Iron County Record, is most appropriate at this time of year. We are sure Ms. Evans will not mind our reprinting it here: as the grads walk down the aisle following commencement exercises. Another of those hot legislative battles is shaping up in the Senate this week as a labor law reform bill is put on the block. A build-u- p of arguments both for and against this controversial measure has preceded congressional debate. Its been the subject of numerous newspaper editorials across the country. Supporters argue its merely a move to inject the existing labor law with more equity. Opponents classify it as another raid on Americas best interest by organized labor; a move to expand union power over business. Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch is floor leader against the bill and has vowed to block its passage by extending debate. . Without benefit of experience in the Held of labor organization, including representation elections, we hesitate to say the reform bill is without merit. BUT WE MUST be just as candid in admitting to prejudice where unions are concerned since so often they seem to be the spawning grounds for strife. We arent as knowledgeable about alleged management abuses against workers as the negative aspects of the labor movement, from extended walkouts which produce inflationary settlements to corruption in union leadership. One thing that both sides agree to -should the labor reform bill pass, it will Kama b news The Kanab First Ward Relief Society will present a pageant Woman's Reach next Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Stake Cultural Hall. Senator Hatch, citing a report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said push-butto- unionization in Utah would go 12 percent higher if the measure becomes law. Hatch further claims that its a joke to say the bill is directed at labor abuses introduced at their Junior Proms and special assemblies and theyve been the center of our lives. "Now theyll graduate and go off to college and we will realize that 17 years of fussing and stewing and watching over them werent nearly enough. . .it went by terribly fast. by large corporations. ONE PROVISION of the bill which, to us seems quite unfair, would allow union organizers to talk to employees about the union on company property during company time if the employer has done so. That's no reform, its an WEATHER . NEWS unwarranted requirement that business subsidize union activity. Unions are already allowed to contact employees at their homes while management is prohibited from doing this. The Senate should examine closely this bill, its potential impact and, most importantly, determine if it will serve the nations best interest. Or if it is merely a concession to organized labor. -- Box Elder Journal unerring Mark Twain once edited a paper in Missouri.
