Show Tin: SOUTHERN . Pare Six - August r When I left Kanab for the Scout Jamboree, 1 said 1 Intended to find a comfortable, shady spot and do notling but read a book. Well, it hasnt been quite like that. However, 1 have done more of that than I really expected. The National Jamboree Is really a big affair and, while I dont want to disillusion anyone, It Is too big for me. I guess Pm Just a country boy all the way; we country boys dont like to wait In lines. It has been Interesting, indeed, with a large variety of activities for the boys from merit badge midways to cold showers to inspirational church services. Opening night, we enjoyed an arena show featuring Hob Hope and a group of Scout A Scouting official related tills incident; "When 1 was Inspecting the gear of the Scouts In one Scout camp, I came across an umbrella In one young I could Scouts belongings. hardly believe my eyes. 1 asked the young camper why he had an umbrella In his gear. We wish all you people who once lived In this beautiful valley could see our (thought dead) orchards, the trees are truly bowed down with the harvest. The cherries are long since in bottles on the shelves, the apricots are made Into jam and leather, a few are still ripening on the branches. The birds have had more than their share, along with the children who have truly eaten their fill. The apple and pear trees have never seen such a crop. We have fought and scolded the bugs In our gardens but, on the other hand, the trees have really outdone themselves. Come home all you who once lived here and see and partake of the beauties and bounties of the earth. NO- SAVE IQSDBAQ a - Page Six - 1LIE 1 hot-do- please. HOME At Ii One thing we cant complain about Is the food, they have been feeding us quite good although gs one or two time It has been and they stay with you a week at least and most of us (leaders anyway) are putting on weight. This eating regularly and not doing much physical exercise Is doing the trick. The short and tall of the Jamboree passed us by as the shortest Scout In camp Is 3 feet 6 Inches and the tallest la 6 feet 8 Inches and we couldnt better these two marks. As 1 mentioned, the Jamboree Is crowded and the boys have not been able to participate In some of the activities, particularly the water sports, because of the Urge numbers. Then again, they are a lot like me and wont wait in line for anything. We are looking forward to the closing arena show Tuesday and the huge fireworks display then. By the time you read this column, we will be on our way home. We will greet the end of the Jamboree with mixed emotions we would like to stay longer but It sure will be nice to get home. We have bad several minor Illnesses and accidents In our group but nothing serious and, at this time, all is well. So, until we return, thanks to all of you lor making this experience possible for 51 boys and 6 leaders.
