Speaking of politics (ah, what a beautiful word) it occurred to me that with all the among Republicans locally, preceding the primary election, that the Democrats may think the old saying, turned backward, may be ture: With enemies like that, who needs friends? Then again, on the other hand, after watching the Democratic National Convention, the GOP hopeful might entertain the same thoughts. I cant tell if there is more interest this year concerning politics or if its just that I am more interested than I have ever been. One thing is we all need to show more interest for certain and do all we can to elect good people to public hoop-de-d- o offices. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. . . . . County Commission Approves 1968 County Tax Levy During the regular August meeting the Kane County Commissioners revised and approved the 1968 county tax levy. Because of the lack of doctors in the area and the resulting decrease in the hospital patient load the Kane County Hospital has operated on a deficit during 1957 and 1968. This problem is certain to continue until sufficient patients are admitted. To offset this Hospital operating deficit the commissioners approved a two mill levy to supplement the hospital revenues. This is in addition to an annual appropriation of $8,000 in the Poor and Indigent Fund to pay for welfare cases and uncollectable hospital accounts. Contrary to current rumors the County Commissioners have never considered the closing of the Kane County Hospital and unanimously feel that It must be kept open and doctors provided as soon as possible. There will be no increase in the 1968 County tax levy, the 15 mill levy will be utilized as follows: Hospital Bond Interest, 2 mills, Hospital Operation, 2 mills; General Fund, 10.5 mills, and Tort Liability Insurance, 0.5 Commission mills.
