County Agent Gives Suggestions CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING From Kanab News Notes and Scott Betenson are and Jill daughters Nancy eastthe a taking tour through ern part of the country. Their tour will take them to Kansas City, Quincy and Springfiled, 111., Portsmouth, Ohio; Washington, D.C.; New York City; they will tour Washington and New York quite extensively; Boston, Mass.; Concord, N.H.; Rutland, Vermont. They will then travel to Rochester, N.Y. While in this area they will attend the Mormon Hill Cumorah Pageant near Palmyra, N.Y., and visit other places of interest in early LDS Church history. (Elder Brian Honey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Honey is a participant in the Hill Cumorah Pageant this year). The Betensons will then visit Cleveland, Chicago, Omaha and Cheyenne and then back to Salt Lake City. They left Salt Lake July 20, and will return August 5. During the past week I have had several people ask about the control of the earwig. Thes pests are found throughout the county, nearly everywhere. As the seasen progresses the earwig population will increase. live under These insects boards and other debris. The earwig is disliked because of its repulsive appearance, foul odor, and habit of feeding at times in kitchen refuse or hiding in a wet mop. It is destruc- tive to many plants and fruit. Mcst damage is dene to sweet corn by feeding on the silk causears. They ing undeveloped feed mostly at night and hide up during the day. There is not one easy control method. These insects are hard to control because of their habits. Some folks have successfully controlled them with poison bait. Sprays and dusts such as Chlordane and DDT are effective. Follow the directions on the container. These chemicals August The best way to start an earwig control program is to clean up your yard. Remove boards and debris where these insects hide during the day. For more information on earwig control contact the extension office. Mr. K. L. Mclff until recently Law Clerk for the Honorable David T. Lewis, Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, has joined Carvel Mattsson and Norman Jackson of Richfield, in forming the law partnership of Mattsson, Jack-so- Doctor Degree in June 1967 from the University of Utah College of Law where he served as Chancellor to the Moot Court . While in law Society, school he served as legal advisor to the University on residency matters. He is a member of the Utah Bar Association, the American Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the Utah Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of Utah and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. 1966-67- n and Mclff. News Notes From Kanab Mr. Mclff is a native of Sanpete County and a graduate of Manti High School in 1957 where he lettered in basketball, baseball and track. After high school he served a six month tour of duty in the armed forces and has subsequently completed Mr. and Mrs. Val Jackson and boys have been visiting at Vals folks, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jack-sofor a week or two, followa ing term of summer school at Brigham Young University. Mr. nad Mrs Don Ford and family have been vacationing in this area and visiting friends and relatives. Ti.e Fords live in Albuquerque where Den is employed with the U. S. Forest Service. n, a reserve obligation. From 1959 to 1961 he served a mission for Tl'o Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints in the East Central States where he was appointed Supervising Elder, Traveling Elder and Assistant to the Mission President. He has also served as a counselor in the Utah State University Stake Second and Third Ward Bishoprics and in the Eleventh Ward Bishopric of the University of Utah Stake. In June, 1964 Mr. Mclff received a B.S. Degree in Political Science from Utah State University. He was elected to numerous honorary societies and fraternities, listed in Whos Who In American Universities and received the Utah State Univer. sity Leadership Award for Kanab News Notes Visiting the M. Beards this menth were: Mr. and Mrs. Homer Beard of Karnes City, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Bill and family of Calif. ; Mr. and Mrs. William Hart of San Angelo, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Tone Woolley of Henderson, Nev.; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Webb and family of Salt Lake City, and Bill and Allison Webb also of Salt Lake City. y Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Drake and family are visiting friends and relatives in the Kanab area. Jerry Marcus Sch-ra- de Cal-Mes- Mrs. Luella Crosby is leaving Kanab this week to spend some time with family members in Tempe, Ariz. Mr. Alfred Ford and grandson Bill McCall from Ogden have been visiting in Kanab at J. S. Johnson. They were here primarily for a Ford reunion. Mr. Mclff received a Juris (Cortinued from page 1) Chamber dues have not been ooming in as well as may be desired and this makes budgetmaking a hard job. Members of the Chamber who have not sent in their dues are strongly urged to do so in order that the organization can move forward. Recently a questionnaire was sent to all Chamber members in an effort to see in what directions the membership desired the directors to go. Very few of these have bepn returned, and the directors feel that if they are to represent the members, they must have their views and the dues. Directors pledged their support to Pacific Western Airways, which has just began furnishing daily service to Kanab. This is a real opportunity for people of this area, they said, and it should help our economy, and provide a good service to local residents.
