One very interesting comment was made at the conference. One of the visiting experts was tolling of the people in the Uintah area working and trying to get some more water secured for the area. One man said, If everyone would do a little less blowing and a little-mor- e one-thir- d honest-to-goodnes- sucking, wed have a sea port here! Hum! With that comment perhaps Id b ter shut up! Since starting this column, Ive been wondering if I dont bellyache too much. So maybe I should say something nice about someone in this colmun. One thing I think we are very fortunate to have in this area is a fine Medical Clinic, and hospital, manned by good competent doctors and aides. Sometimes we may not think this so but if we were without these all of a sudden wed soon change our minds. Granted, nobody wants to have to visit the doctor or hospital professionally, but when we have to its real good to know there is someone there who knows what he is doing. And if we were to be without good doctors we would be most sorry. Panguitch finds themselves in somewhat this condition, as they only have on full-tim- e resident physician. As a matter of fact some of our own doctors have been taking turns going to Panguitch to help them out of the bind. I hope we never find ourselves with this type problem. Even though our doctors may receive offers from other places we hope they will remain with us. We need good doctors and we appreciate their professional knowledge. Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others. n fund-raisin- Set-te- n a-- ea. Beef Seminar At Valley Is Successful Cowboys And Buffalos Lose Grim-shaw- two-poin- Several of us who attended the Community Development Conference in Cedar City Friday came home with stars in our eyes but also with a few doubts. Some very interesting things were discussed, and suggested during the meetings with experts in the field of community development. The case history which was presented about developing Kanabs urban area was interesting to say the least. Its development as envisioned by the experts would be lovely indeed, and a most welcome improvement. However, the cost and problems of getting details worked out along with selling the idea to everyone seems a large hurdle. It is a large hurdle to be sure, but Im sure the experts didnt suppose the jump would be made all at once, but that a priority list would be made and all these improvements would come one at a time perhaps over a long period of time. Maybe I should describe the ideas they put forth before going further. They proposed to centralize the commercial and civic area of town into the four blocks encompassed by First North, First East, First South, and First West streets. The northeast block was laid out as commercial and civic. The southeast was commercial, sowthwest, commercial; and northwest, institutional and recreational. Main street would be changed somewhat with islands in the middle of the road and parking between islands, north and south. In this way, they felt, the tourist and visitor to our city could park their car and walk to everything. Perhaps you may say these things are nice but there are many other things that Kanab and other towns of our immediate area need lots worse. And you are right However, all these things will add to the final picture, and actually are part of the overall plan. This is where the priority list comes in. Our water supply needs to be expanded true. Our irrigation system needs upgrading true. Many, many, things need doing, but wont they all help enhance the area? And this is the whole to get started and not stop until it comes idea to that final large completed project that years before looked too tig. At the conference some slides were shown of Kanab. They werent the most complimentary.
