Three of the four major professional sports in America hold their all star games within two weeks of each other The only exception is of course baseball, which holds theirs during the summer. However, theres a big difference between all of the all star games. Some are a fantastic display of competition and skill, w hile others are just a pathetic display Take the NFLs Pro Bowl for example. What a waste of time For NFL players, the only real benefit of being selected to the game is having the title NFL Pro Bowler tacked on to the end of your name. Nobody wants to play, even it it is in Hawaii. Every year scores of N F L players suddenly come down with injuries in order to escape the absolute horr-ao- f playing in this game. You should have seen this year's list. Sprained pinkies, ingrown toenails, hangnails, bad hair days and the like. Pathetic. But you can hardly blame them. The main reason is because the game is played after the season. Its over. Nobody cares In addition, athletes dont want to risk further injury, which is understandable with a sport like football. Other sports fall somewhere in the middle. Take basketball lor example. The NBA All Star game is one of the most entertaining sporting events of the year, period. If you want to be entertained, then this is your game. Were talkg dunks, specing about tacular moves, and plenty of hot Late 11 8 Thur-Sa- 8-- 3 5 8 Murray 8-- 3. Donkey Punchers 4. But where else can you see Gary Pavton pass to Kevin 145-14- Garnett who ally oops it to Shnquille O Neal? Its great stuff. Not as great as the Major 1 eague Baseball All Star Game, however While maybe not as entertaining as the N BA All Star Game, the baseball extravaganza has something hoops doesn't: Intensitv It's simple, really You cant fake it in baseball While you can get away with playing sub-pa- r defense in hoops, a lethargic performance wont cut it in baseball. Slack on defense, and youll commit an embarrassing error. If the pitcher slacks, hell get lit up faster than you can say big unit. Slack on offense, youll get burned on three straight fastballs. She also set a record in 14:27329. Again we have the distance covered for the women and I think well be just fine in the sprints, said William Penn track coach Steve Golas.
