"To create an immediate. naked theatre with only the bare essentials, a thca~ of ideas, im2gination and emotion." The production will be performed free of charge May 26 and 28 at 8:00 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall. The production lasts no longer than an hour, much shom:r dun the original Greek tragedy. •tt's been conccntratoo down to the bare essentials," says Melanie Ndson, who plays Medea. According to Cox, the adaptation is also much more humanistic and and expressionistic than its classical Greek counterpart. Haze Hunter Conference Center the three large ensembles-Concert Choir, Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band-of the SVU music department will .present a scholarship benefit concert. The Concert Choir is directed by Bart Shanklin, assistant professor of music and music department head. 1l1e Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Virginia Stitt, associate professor of music, and the Concert Band is direcred by Gary Reeves, associate professor of music. BANDS CONCERT SCHEDULED FOR MAY 20: Trombonist Mark Pappas will highlight a concert featuring SUU's Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble May 20. There is no admis ion charge for the concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall. As a professional musician, Pappas currently perfonns with his own jazz en emble in the midwest A composer as well as a performer, Pappas' compositions are played by both professional and collegiate bands. He will be in residence during the week to work with SUU srudents. His appearance is sponsored by SUU's Music Education National Conference/Music Club and an appropriation from the SUUSA Senate.
