In July, The Thunderbird il.[ld thf SUU publications department purcha~ a ,!)CW COJJlp~syste~usj,gg Macinto~ computers, a , ~Masir 200 and .quatkx:P~s !ottware. Thunderbird adviser Larry BAer say} the new· svstems will make i£"e operation of an publications more efficient, especiaJly with the ability to interface with other computers on campus. Ten new Macintosh computers wert bought to help in the publication process. These new computers took the place of old, outdated Compugraphic models. Funding for the new computers came from taking out a loan from the scholarship fund and using part of the publications department budget. The loan will be paid back in full at a rate of 7 1/2 percent interest over 6 years. The new Macintosh system enables The Thunderbird and other publication staffs, such as Tailwind, SUU's literary magazine, to use laser printing instead of the old photo-type setting of the Compugraphic system. The laser printer now in use has a resolution of 1200 dots per inch while most available local printers have a resolution of only JOO dots per inch. This increase in resolution provides a clearer print, which will be easier to read. _..._ _ 8CHOOL CAL.QIU T0"8 ---i,..._. ~A.. A~H...NALIA ..,..-~~-- NOT1laOOK8 AND 81HD.ft8 Baker says the old computers wouJd have cost too much to maintain and the system needed to be updated. Chemicals and film for the old system also needed to be purchased which added to the production cost. By using the new system, the publications program and The Thunderbird actually cut down on their operational costs and enjoy greater tlexibiJity in publications. So unless srudents are planning to take a sculpting class from Michelangelo, they can put away the ancient means of publication and switch to the technology of the 21st century. Since that time, he has personally traveled to many of the places that were important in Columbus' life. His research led to the book The Secret Journal of Christopht!r Columbus, which probes the intimate thoughts and deep motives of the explorer. In 1989, Palmer became aware of the "Chatauqua concept." Developed as a tool to combine educational and cultural components with entertainment, the concept began as a formal traini ng program for Methodist Sunday School teachers at Lake Chatauqua, N.Y. It quickly expanded to include singing, dancing, poetry readings and impersonations of historical figures. Palmer not only developed his own one-man show, but introduced the program to Salisbury State. The performance fearures Columbus' view of events and people in his life, including Queen Isabella, his obsessive mission to find a new route to Asia and his family and his critics. • 227 South Main St. CedarCtty (Across from 7-11 ) Parking In the Rear ~ 518 South Main • • • • • • •• • • • r--------------------, COUPON $1.00 OFF This certificate Is worth $1 off on the next roll of 110. 126, 135. or disc film you bring to us.
