BY KIMBERLY SI/VENSON JOURNAL STAFF WRl"fER The Thunderbird awards recognize students, faculty, staff, campus organiz~tions, alumni and friends of the university who have added greatly to its stature. • Nominations submitted by students, faculty and staff have been reviewed and resumes have been accepted. Judges have narrowed the nominees down to five or six people in each category. After an extensive interview process. the judges, consisting of a panel of faculty members, students and staff, have chosen the winners. The nominees are: • Adviser of the Year. Michael Donovan, professor of biology; Brian Heuett, assistant professor of communication; Paul Husselbee, assistant professor of communication; Dan Pence, associate professor of sociology; Gregory J. Powell, assistant professor of management and Dennis Vredenburg, associate professor of marketing. • Professor of the Year: Kay Andersen, assistant professor of dance; Steve T. Barney, assistant professor of psychology; Robert Behunin, associate professor of English; Arlene Braithwaite, associate professor of art; Art Challis, associate professor of communication; Les Jones, professor of psychology; Frain Pearson, professor of communication. • R. Kenneth Benson Award: Ryan Bell. a senior biology major from Salt Lake; John Bunkall, a junior political science major from West Valley City; Brady Cox, a senior chemistry major from Orangeville, Utah; Joe B. Wright, a junior social science major from Kanab, Utah; Michael Wasden, .a senior communication major from Boise, Idaho; and Matthew Cannon, a senior English/political science major from Salt Lake City. • Elaine C. Power 91 , Presidential Ambassadors, Sigma Chi. The winners will be announced at the Thunderbird Awards Ceremony, which is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Randall L. Jones Theatre. Ginette McDonald will host the awards event. She is an alumnus of SUU and a former KSL news broadcaster. ' Nominees for the performer of the year award will entertajn the audience during the event. Clark & Linford Jewelers are supplying the awards. "I am really excited about this event,· said Josie Beth Baxter, Thunderbird Awards chairwoman and a sophomore theatre arts major from Tremonton, Utah.
