When you're investing for retirement, the adage The SUUSA Senate agonized over every penny it allocated Tuesday night, and it still managed to keep $282.47 in its budget after passing five bills. The first bill debated was No. 032-01 , titled "light in Motion .• The bill originally requested $750 to help the SUU Disability Support Center fund Disability Week, April 9-13. Additional funding was found by the investigating committee and the bill was amended to $177 with most of the money going toward refreshments. The bill passed 13-0-0. Bill No. 0~3-01 , titted "Let's Rock,· requested $520 to send four geology students to a professional conference. Investigating committee member Sen. Brianna Baumgartner of the College of Education said the cost should be looked at as a class fee because attendance at the conference is mandatory for the students to graduate. She suggested the amount allocated be reduced. The bill was amended to $320; it passed 13-0-0. Bill No. 034-01 , titled "Psychology Conference,· requested $330 to help send 22 psychology students to a professional conference in April. The investtg-atfon committee lauded the Psi Chi Club for raising enough money to cover all expenses except the conference fee of $15 per person. The bill passed 13-0-0. Bill No. 035-01 , titled "High Noon with PVA." requested $550 be allocated to help fund the College of Performing and Visual Arts focus days, April 10-12. Funds for sports equipment were originally requested; however, the equipment was found to be available through the SUU P.E. cage. The bill was amended to $485 and passed 12-1-0. The final two bills of the nightone for the CHANGE club, and one for the SUU Concert Choircaused the senate the most grief. Wien it was time to debate bill No. 036-01 , requesting $2000 for members of CHANGE to go to Africa, the senate had only · $2,367.40 left in its budget. Bill No. 037-01 , requesting $1 ,500 to send 79 members of the SUU Concert Choir to Salt Lake City for one night, was next on the agenda and all the senators were aware of the dilemma. Sen. Lynar Young of the College of Business and Technology, suggested the Concert Choir bill be passed before the CHANGE bill, so fair amounts could 'be allocated to both.
