Ray Reutzel on prioritization and allocation was created at Thursday's faculty Senate meeting. The Advisory Committee on Prioritization and Allocation will advise Reutzel on the future vision of SUU (opportunities and additions); framing criteria on essentiality; and determining the goal (how much money should be reallocated) . The decision was passed unanimously and one faculty senate member from each college was selected in addition to representatives from the library and continuing and professional studies. The members of the committee are Tom Cunningham, associate professor of library . media; Earl Mulderink, associate professor of history: Boyd Fife, instructor of construction management; Carol Modesitt, associate professor of music; Robert Eves, associate·professor of chemistry and geology; Rick Lambson, assistant professor of physical education; and David Nyman, interim dean of continuing and professional studies. Reutzel also asked the senate for recommendations on criteria for the Outstanding Educator. "Faculty awards ought to be decided by a body of the faculty." Reutzel said. Reutzel proposed an Ray Reutzel additional award-Scholar , of the Year. On an annual basis, $1 ,000 will be allocated from a grant. The Faculty Achievement Committee is charged with selecting the winner. . Reutzel also asked the senate to consider minimum class sizes. Mulderink said some low-enrollment classes represent diversity and cuts can 't be made on numbers alone. Luciane Berg, assistant professor of psychology, suggested overload courses be limited. . Reutzel said he wanted to know whether policies or guidelines could be made and that if money in the overload budget could be saved, funds could be moved elsewhere. The senate will continue the discussion next month. In other business, the faculty senate unanimously passed a resolution from the SUUSA Senate that requested students not be penalized for attending the High Noon for Higher Education rally. Faculty Senate President Neil Gailey, associate professor of information systems, told the senate a letter was sent to Cecelia Foxley, commissioner of higher education, in regard~ to the appraisal of SUU President Steven Bennion. The letter requested faculty be selected in a truly random sampling, mid-March be the cutoff to respond and a wtitten appraisal be sent to the senate. · Finally, a revised copy of the Definition of Faculty was distributed for discussion among departments.
