Show !THURSDAY, MARCH JO, 2000 LE1TERS e1othi1UJ wi1hout Lnn11-s I was somewhat offended when I read Thursd~y's focus article about Mandy Jensen, who is graduating from SUU after just three years . This is amazing, and I am very proud of her. However, what about me? I also graduated high school in 1997 and will be walking at commencement one month from now. I have a triple composite PR/advertising/journalism major and have completed over 40 credit hours worth of internships. And what about my friends? Colleen Cutler has a composite broadcasting/journalism major. Kelly Richards has completed the secondary education major/math minor requirements. Michaun Jensen will finish a double major in sociology and psychology . Shalon a Hatch graduated in December, completing a business degree in just two and-a-half years. All of these women graduated from h igh school in 1997, all are members of Alpha Phi, and all will be graduating from SUU in May. And who is to say there are not more students at SUU doing the same thing? I am very proud of my accomplishments, as I am sure Mandy Jensen is. But the article completely isolated all other three-year SUU grads - I felt completely unimportant. The writer of the article should have done more research to find out just how many other students are graduating under the same circumstances. I feel this would make a very interesting article because the average student takes five years to complete a bachelor' s degree. I offer congratulations to Jensen, my sisters, and to all the other students who will be graduating from SUU in May , whether after three years or seven. Look out world, here comes the class of 2000. Veronica Garner Everyone is the 'true victim' To the Editor: As a reader of the writings from the former writers who wrote about the Adam Nelson Trial , I was a bit irked by your outcry for · emotional understanding of the · true victims.· Are you girls telling me that you have done what thousands of dollars of tax payer's money have failed to do? I am sure that it is possible that the jury was in the back of the room poking holes in a doll when the defendant made these statements. Another more reasonable explanation would be that your quotes were taken out of context, taken out of the court room, and taken out of emotion and scrutiny of our judicial system. · Do you realize that you are more likely to be innocent but found guilty rather than guilty and found innocent in this country' s court system depending on you financial status? I would rather see a guilty man walk than an innocent man hang. Thank God that this system does.not pass judgement upon a few selected words. If it did, we might all be guilty. l suppose that the media fell short as "Asay fails to mention," but I really don 't think we need to analyze this in a public ·forum for the "true victims sake ." A judg e and jury found him not guilty of the crime for which he was charged, so if you know otherwise, please file an appeal. It is the right thing to do considering you didn 't come forth during the trial. So anyway, to answer your question of who the "true victim" is here, I ·would have to say everyone. ~ Traveling TOGS ~ Cl othing & Accessories oitf OPEN Mon-Fri 10-9, Sat 10-7 lr7o, '.fS We BUY Mon-Thu 3-7 · LJ Visit us in downtown Cedar City J4~ :r Others deserve recognition To the Editor.
