The 84 s tudents who have completed the specialized training will receive their certificates at a 7 p.m. program in the Grea t Hall of the Hunter Conference Center on campus. The graduates have completed training in CNC machining, cabinet making/ millwork, automotive technology, civil design, medical transcr.iption, medical secretary, clerical technology, and livestock farm management .program s. Amy Swalberg, a medical secretary grad ua te from Delta, will present the outstanding student address; an d Rob Brems, associate s uperintendent fo r applied technology with the Utah State Office of Educat ion, will be the commencement speaker. Vigil to honor ·A IDS victims On Sunday, May 19, hundreds of Utahns will join people from more than 290 cities in 41 nations for the 13th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial and Mob"ilization, the world's largest observance to remember and honor those people affected by HIV/AIDS. A southern Utah observan ce will be held in Cedar City at Christ the King Church, 70 North 200 West, at 8 p.m. "This event, which began in San Francisco in 1983, honors the memory of those who have died of AIDS, demonstrates support for people living with HIV/ AIDS and mobilizes . community involvement in the fight against the disease, 11 said Barbara Shaw, executive director of the Utah AIDS Foundation, one of the local organizations sponsoring th e event. The· theme of the 1996 event is " AIDS Discrimination Is a Global Epidemic." T he aim of the theme is to emphasize that people with HIV/ AIDS suffer discrimination caused by fear, ignorance and misconceptions about the disease. Such discrimination promotes, rather than prevents the spread of HIV.
