Page, whom Festival founding producer Fred Adams calls "one of the most popular performers in the Festival's 33-year history" will perform his oneman Shakespeare program Passion's Slaves three times a week throughout the month of July. "We have been trying to get Patrick back to Cedar for several years, but his schedule has been too busy," Adams said. "Last year we actually had him h ere rehearsing for the summer, but then Broadway snatched him up." Page appeared in the Pulitzer Prize winning epic The Kentucky Cycle on Broadway last year. Passion's Slaves has been described by the Deseret N ews as "an evening with one of the West's finest Shakespearean actors, taking the audience on a journey through the hearts and minds of a dozen of William Shakespeare's most memorable characters." It traces the th eme of passion in Shakespeare's plays, finding humor in some situations and pain in others. The show was first devised by Page in 1987, and has since been performed to critical acclaim throughou t the nation. This is th e first time it h as had a professional run in Cedar City. "It's part Shakespearean performance, part stand up comedy, and part university lecture, " Page said. "I know the title sounds terribly serious, but in fact a great deal of the show is comedy." Characters explored include Malvolio from Twelfth Night, Benedick from Much Ado about N othing, and Mercutio from Rom eo and fuhet . In addition Page will reprise many characters he performed during his sixyear tenure with the Festival, including Richard ill, Macbeth and Brutus from fulius Caesar. Since leaving Cedar City in 1989, Page has been seen as Hamlet, Richard II, Marc Antony and Henry V, at leading theatres including the New York, Oregon and Alabama Shakespeare Festivals, and in contemporary roles at many others. He can currently be seen in the recurring role of Billy on the ABC daytime drama All My Children. Passion's Slaves will be performed July 12, 16, 19, 21, 24, 26, 28, and 3 1. Show time is 11:30 a.rn. to avoid conflict with other Festival productions. It will take place in Thorley Recital Hall . Tickets are $12 general admission, an d are available in advance at the Festival box office by calling 586-7878, or at the door on the day of performance. Seating is limited, and reservations are encouraged. |
